Well its after deer season and turkeys are on my mind :) Ive never went after turkeys with the bow and I got the itch to kill something with my creedXS that still has yet to see blood! It was a dry year bowhunting for me , So what all needs to be done differantly then hunting turkeys with a gun? Normally I hunt out on the ground without any blind, I just have some brush behind me to breakup my outline! Would a blind be a better suited choice when using a bow to hunt them ? Oh and on my broadhead choice ... Whats the best choice for a turkey broadhead? I use a G5 Striker for deerhunting but I have no idea if thats suitable for turkeys or not? Mabey a rage would be better ?

Guys just give me any big pointers you all have! I have killed allot of turkeys but ive never tried it with a bow !

    Galen,

You're going to find an overwhelming amount of information and opinions on turkey hunting. Here's what works of me:

-BE PREPARED TO FAIL!! Killing a turkey w/ archery equipment is a whole other world than shooting w/ a shotgun. (this is the #1 tip I can give) They are much tougher than given credit.

    - I always use a blind with archery equipment. For whatever reasons, turkeys don't seem to be scared of them

-put your dekes closer to the blind then you would with a gun (less then 10 yards)

    - For your broadhead question: I like big expendables, but the old rule rings true - "you have to hit them where it counts". In years pasts I have really liked Rage Turkey heads in 3 blade. Last year was year #1 for the Magnus Bullhead experiment and attempt to kill by headshot.

    - one last tip I feel is important is to let the birds come to you. I also started w/ the shotgun and was a classic "run-n-gunner". I feel one of the best tips is to set your blind up in an area where the turkeys are going to be, and sit and wait. When I was gun hunting I wasn't sitting much past 8 before I was on the move going after birds. Now I'll sit till noon on a field where I know at some point there will be birds and them work to me.

As stated in the 1st tip - Be prepared to fail!!!! May be the most important. Hunting turkeys with archery equipment will test your patients more than anything, especially if you're a seasoned shotgun hunter. Its tough, but ultra rewarding!

    Good Luck
