I have 6 Rage heads to use this fall.

I'm hearing alot about blades opening in flight, the Rage's not hitting with field tips (even though the practice head does) and I'm getting worried about them.

Should I shoot one of the Real Rage heads at my target and see if it impacts or the blades open up? I thought that was what the practice head was for but people are saying that the real heads don't hit with the practice tips.

If I am worrying about any piece of my equipment I am either fixing it or replacing it with equipment I don't have to worry about.

I don't shoot em but have

If you are worried about them opening get the little rubber bands used for braces and put one on, the practice heads fly right with field points and had no issues with the real thing hitting on target

I got tired of paying $40 and now shoot buzzcuts - , but I also agree with Bruce if you are worried or concerned find something you have complete confidence in

I hear ya, and that's why I had originally planned on shooting G5 Montecs. I do have alot of these Rage heads lying around though and I want to use them. I'm thinking about shooting one of the real Rage heads to confirm that it is going to fly with the practice tips. I cant see why it wouldn't.

I guess I'll shoot one and confirm it.

Maybe I should rephrase my "Worries". I'm not worried about the Rage head performing. If it impacts the same point as the practice head, then I have complete confidence in it.

I think most of the guys who had blades open, probably didn't have them clicked into place, and didn't realize it.

I have using Rage heads for past couple of years and love them. I have never had a problem w/ them. They make HUGE holes and hit exactly where I want them. But like everyone else said, if you have any doubts don't use them. You want 100% confidence in whatever you are using. Any head out there right now will kill a deer.

Well, I'm not sure how to take that, Jeff, lol.

I'm shooting a Reflex Charger at 66#'s at 29" with a 27.5" GoldTip Expedition. I ran it through a calculator and it spit out that I was getting right at 70 #'s of KE.

I remember in the past from over on HuntingNet that you had alot of issues with pass throughs.

Im going to shoot em this again...but Im leaning towards the new 40 ke heads just for assurance...I did kill 5 deer last year with the standard 2 blade with about 63# of KE, but at this point I would rather have the assurance of a pass thru..Jeff killed lots of deer with them and didn't get a lot of pass thrus, but he still had dead deer..but he also had an incident last year that was unforgettable with the 2" blades..I had no issues with pass thru myself but I want to be on the safe side...

ok, i have never had a problem with accuracy or pre-deployment. rotate the rubber band a quarter turn and this will give the blades a new section of rubber to hold on to. i was worrying about durability and shot them into a 1/8" 55 gallon drum because i feel the steel drums are to harsh of a test for broadhead durability. it cut over a 2" slit on the way in and stuck into the back side. however the blades did fall off. they did not break. the center pin they pivot from bent and fell out(its a hollow pin, it should be solid) i would definately trust them on dear sized game.

Quick question: this is the first I've seen of the 40 KE head (haven't stayed in the loop as much this past year), so I went to their website... it says if you shoot under 40 lbs, you may want to use this head. Are they saying if you have 45 lbs. of KE you would be fine shooting the regular Rage?

    Hmmmm..... ;)

The reason(s) I don't use them are simply because I know too many TOOLS who use them.

Somebody send me one of those low KE ones. I'll put it up in a fair test against my muzzys. I'm getting ~38 lbs of KE.

yes Greg/MO they are saying that, in fact dig a little deeper on their site and there is a chart that says what you should shoot, they have a cut off.

^^^X2. The o rings do wear over time and need to be rotated or replaced. They tend to get a grove worn into them which causes the premature opening. These are amizing broadheads tho. Everyone wants a complete passthrough but let's just say it doesn't happen, you've now got a 2 inch entry hole (with the 2 blade) for the blood to exit the body. It's pretty amazing how harsh these things are. I would say if you aren't confident then go ahead and shoot them into your target. Good luck and as with anything else this is personal preference. You've got to use what you're comfortable with. There are lots of people that are die hard fixed blade fans and that's great because they are comfortable with them. I'm just speaking from experience and they are my personal broadhead of choice. I hunt with 5 other guys and 4 of us shoot the Rage and that's because it works for us.

I shot one earlier, and it shot right with my field tips and the practice head. I taped a piece of paper to the back of the target to see about what the exit wound would look like, it was a nice 2" cut.

Englum~~ I also was wondering the same thing so luckily I have three new Rage heads and 3 used Rage heads a buddy gave me. I FINALLY got my bow shooting good and thought im gonna try em out to see how it does........

Too be completely honest I WASNT expecting field point accuracy but id be darned if I didnt nail the 1/2" sticker on my Yellow Jacket target at 20yrds!! I was impressed, so I shot it once more with the O-ring a little bit "gouged" to see if it would pop open and it nailed the 1/2" sticker once again!!!!!

I now need to replace the O-ring because it is trashed now, but it shoots great!! I then continued to shoot the practice head and it is flying just as good as field tips!!

I will be giving these heads a trial run, I am shooting FMJ's at 66lb but with only a 11% FOC and from all the numbers I have run it should be about 70-71lbs KE?!!!
I do know one thing I am hitting the target MUCH harder then I ever have before!!!
