I've been looking at texas outfitters and found one in centeral texas thats is a do it yourself type of hunt, you set up stands or blinds scout the deer out and there are no trophy fee's if you kill one that is a giant. I'm mainly booking it for my wife as she loves texas and she'll get to see lots of deer. The outfitter is The Heart of Texas bowhunting has anyone hunted there before? I've talked to a few guys and they said for the price you cant go wrong. Your allowed a 120 9pt or 8pt or 125 10pt or better better buck, 2 does, 1 turkey hen, and unlimited hogs for $750 i'm thinking thats not bad at all. Plus for $250 more you can kill a axis doe or buck. Whats your thoughts on this package? We spent more on a lease this year that produced 1 deer for us both, so be able to harvest 3 deer and one being a good buck for the same price seems like a no brainer to me. Plus i'm going back to Kansas again for my own trip
I would find some reveiws on it to see how big the population is. May not be heavily populated with deer to take 3 in a few day hunt.
Just read up on some reviews and seems well populated. Also talked to the outfitter and he said you'll see 10-20 deer a hunt. They allow each hunter a 400-450ac area and your only allowed to scout that area and only allow to drive to that area within certain time frames of the day. Think its 9,000ac total so thats not to bad pressure wise.
I used an outfitter in texas this year and loved it. The only reason I went is because my buddy ownes it. It was very strange in some ways, but alot of fun. I only actually only sat in a stand for 1 evening. We would drive around and spot deer. I shot my first one of the trip on a spot and stalk, that ended up with a 145" buck. The texas deer have very skinny deer, and their heads are not porportional to thier antlers. My second I shot right off the back of the truck, that ended up being a 138" buck. Its very unique in its own way. Plus you use long range 20lb rifles with long silencers. Both those bucks were in the morning and then that night, I shot two "cull" bucks. (In a stand). Here are some pictures from the hunt. We spent 3 days there. I guess the way I look at it, I could have spent months sitting in my treestand here in Illinois and not shot anything near that size, but it is much more rewarding here with my bow.
