Going into the eye doctor on Friday and am going to ask about Lasik. I want to get away from glasses cause they've always given me fits while shooting. Anyone go through Lasik?
I had it done almost 10 years ago and retouched about 5 years ago. Overall it has been a great thing for me, other than a dominate eye issue after the second surgery. I was -9.75 in my left eye and -8.5 in my right eye to start, basically I couldn't function without my glasses. After the first surgery my right eye was great and my left eye was good, over time my left eye got a little worse so I went back and had them retouch it. After the second surgery my left eye is now my better eye and therefore my dominant eye has shift from my right to my left. Talk about screwing up your shooting, it took lots of practice and learning to close my left eye when I shoot to get back on track. Ask lots of questions, make sure that you are treated as an individual and not a number. If you feel like they are just herding people through and don't take the time that you expect then find another doctor. The testing before the surgery is critical to your results so make sure they take their time and if you have any questions or concerns bring them up, don't be afraid to ask.
I was talking with a co-worker today about it... He had it done 10 years ago and loves the results. And Technology has come a long way since then also... IDK if my vision is bad enough for them to want to do it... but I have a hard time when I don't wear my glasses... i.e. Driving, hunting... etc. Sure would be nice not to worry about it anymore.
I have enough of me that doesn't work right. I am not going to risk my eyes getting screwed up too. I' deal with my glasses.
I had my LASIK done two weeks ago tomorrow. The end result remains to be seen. I was very far-sighted. Enough so that I needed reading glasses on top of contacts to work. The doctor intentionally over-corrected my vision to allow for regression. My reading vision now is 20/15 but my distant vision is blurry but it's slowly getting better. If he got it right my distant vision will improve while the reading vision will get worse. If he didn't get it right then I'll need a "touch-up" procedure. This was all discussed beforehand and it's what I expected. He told me going into this that I would always need reading glasses. I'm good with that. Honestly, even if my vision didn't improve over where I am now I'd still be happy. Before, without contacts or glasses I could move around, but I couldn't see crap close up or far away. Now I can read the finest print there is and I can still see good enough to hunt. That's a heck of an improvement and well worth the price. On another note Jeff Foxworthy had it right. If you do get LASIK I'd seriously recommend that you don't shop around for the cheapest doctor. When it comes to your eyes you don't want a deal that's too good to be true. I did A LOT of homework before I did this and I read a lot of stories with unhappy endings. Save up, pay extra and go with a reputable doctor with a lot of good references.
My wife had it done and went from having some thick glasses to being able to see better than I can. The heal time sucks, she had me putting eye drops in for her for a while but once you are done wearing the suglasses and everything you're good to go.
I had PRK, my eyes are permanently weakened. Like you can flick my eyelids and it hurts. But worth it, I hope I don't lose my eyesight again.
