I tried it once that a co worker brought in and it was good. How many keep and eat the Heart? and whats the best way to fix it?

I love deer heart sandwich's! Usually all ill do is soak the heart in a brine mix over night in the fridge. Then pull it out and boil it till it's cooked trough.

Is heart good for you? I would guess it would be very lean.

Never tried it myself but we have a friend we always give the heart to and he loves the stuff. I might just have to try it this year.

I enjoy a good deer heart after the kill. I've always sliced it thin, while slicing remove all the veins, then bread it and fry it with butter. Not much of a recipe, single guy thats not great in the kitchen myself, but gets the job done.

I've been thinking of doing this too Crick.

Brine is basically salt water. You can add other seasonings (pickling, etc) to it as well. Soaking in a brine is great for chicken too. Best trout I've had I soaked in brine for 2 days then smoked.... mmmmmmmmm...

My grand father allways pickel our hearts. I miss it like you would not beleive! None of us got the recipe before he passed away and grandma never watched him do it.

I was thinking about trying it this year, but I've never eaten the heart of anything and I'd be nervous that I was doing it wrong. You're supposed to be able to eat the tongue too, but I don't think I'll ever get up the nerve to try that.

Love heart! Soak it in a brine, flour it with some seasonings in the flour, fry it up. Not a big fan of liver though

I like beef liver floured and fried. I've tried deer liver the same way and I didn't like it. I only tried it one and someone else made it so not sure if I can blame the deer or the cook for it being bad tasting. Never cared to try it again.
