Talking to my SIL today he was encouraging me to gun hunt this year, I would have the farm to myself. I do think it is also a plan to have me hunt so some shirt tail cousin can't come and hunt. Plus it's rifle country I still have my 270 BAR and my IWOM. They have an open box blind in place.

Thing is I am a self taught hunter and I sucked and had terrible luck as a gun hunter shot does and a button buck by a corn pile in 1991 for my first deer ever. Bought a ranch, 20 acres and learned to bow hunt and have had much better luck. Hunting ag country this year first time will be interesting. Thing is the local grocery store has a meat shop that is so good so I get 3 deer 1 Buck this year and hell yes I will shoot does with a rifle. The meat sticks and brats are that good.

Grab the gun and get out there.

My brother just bought 120 acres west of little falls south of highway 27. First year I’ll have a shotgun for gun hunting instead of the rifle in a very very long time.

No not giving up bow hunting, the only reason to gun hunt would be if I still have a tag to fill and it is getting cold.

I love taking does with my M1903. But I can’t get over the idea of your sister-in-law being a he!

Here (and I'm sure where you are) it gets so cold that it's nice to sit in a blind with a rifle and make jerky.

The blind is slightly elevated and the top of the walls are open in all 4 directions. Not sure a heater would be effective. Only a matter of time we build a deluxe platform so the grandson can come sit.

I have never shot a buck with antlers with a fire arm would be kinda nice to change that. I would rather shoot a buck before gun season with my bow not shooting anything under 140 with a bow. Ok that may be a lie but not shooting a basket or a 6 or a small 10.

Nothing wrong with gun hunting .. I started out about 40 yrs ago with a smooth bore 20 ga. slug gun when I got out of the Marines, then a TC Renegade side lock ML, then a .44 Mag Ruger Blackhawk Single action ... then a fully rifled bbl 12 ga and a in line ML ... used my .270 Win. when I hunted Texas ... Ive killed somewhere around 40 deer (bucks/Does) with firearms, around 90 or so with archery gear .... I killed my last deer with a firearm in 2013, a 160"/210lb Bruiser ... that was my last time gun hunting deer .. I still use my 22-250 for 'yotes, the .22 for squirrels (was out last Sat. for the opener), and shotgun for upland game and the Turkey Shotgun for Gobblers (killed a nice one this past spring).... but for deer, I am bow only now (33 yrs with a bow now) ... I am a BOWhunter at heart, and enjoy the challenge ... I will go back to gun one of these days, but for now, its bow only for deer .... Good Luck in your endeavor ...
