I got an idea Brad... this sounds so appealing, why don't we do this solo trip together? It sounds like fun! :D
Last couple of years I have been 100% solo to bad everywhere ive been hunting has not been. Next season I will be doing a trip out to Ohio solo.
GFY Camp I do it almost every 2 years for a week. I haven't for the last 2 as I have changed jobs and lost all my holiday time. Trouble with including a friend is that always seems to put a timetable to it,IE meet you here at such n such a time. Being alone is so revitalizing, you do what you want ,go where you want and come home when you want or camp..You want to hunt a ridge, you do it, your not comitted to someone else's timetable. I got into some terrain I would never of gone into if I were with my partner. In turn, it enabled me to have an opportunity at a world class mulie. Like some of the other guys mentioned too,a must have is a phone,in case of a fall or injury, but turn it off. You will feel something from with in too if your walking back in unknown country and start hearing unwanted sounds in the dark, will make a grown man cringe and then the mind plays games. If you know God, prayer will start, thank God for him. Rocky Do it,you won't regret it.
It's going to take commitment, a lot of planning, and teamwork, but if we put our minds to it I bet we can get it done.
I'm opposite of most these other guys on here. Although I mostly hunt alone.. a weekend by yourself isn't all its cracked up to be. I much prefer a good friend to joke with before we go out in the morning or come in at night. Hunting is always more enjoyable with others if you ask me. When your in tree its time to be alone.. but back at camp.. I like conversation.
I do it consistanly i pack up the truck, a cooler full and a pile of wood and head to the mountains for a week or so. Like the other guys said you learn alot about yourself and sharpen your skills. I enjoy not being pressured to get out of the woods, or get back to camp. I am always on my own schedule, but i not going to lie it is harder to pack your elk/deer back to camp all byyourself. I say go for it, you won't regret it.
