I have been shooting the same bow, a Hoyt Charger, since 2016. After the debacle of dropping it out of a tree last season , and missing what would have been my best buck with a bow , I am thinking it may be time for new one. Okay, I am whining, in reality it is due for new strings, but with the cost of strings, that is more than what the bow is worth on resell value. So, might as well just upgrade and make this bow my back up. I am not in a position drop the money on a flagship bow, so something in the $600-800 range will have to due. I have created a spreadsheet (NERD ALERT) of the models from the major brands in this price range. Looking for feedback on these specific bows, if you have any. From my online research, Bear Archery seems to be doing really well with bows in this price range. I have not shot anything yet. I would love to go back to Hoyt, but that is the most expensive bow in the price range. I am open-mined to other brands.
I am a terrible guy to ask about bows and equipment in general. ha. But I hope you get an awesome bow man.
You can get a year or two old flagship for that price range all day long. I’d contact some shops in your area and see if they have old stock they’re looking to move. As far as any bows on that list I haven’t shot any of them. If you’re looking for Hoyt you can get a VTM 31 or 34 or alpha x30 or x33.
1) My local shop does some sales on consignment and also reps a few different brands. Go shoot a few and see what feels good and what doesn't. Be up front, that your really just test driving to find what you like, any experiences (pro/con) and your budget. Sometimes they can guide you to consider a particular model or brand. 2) There are some big box chains that private label some of thebrands. I don't think Hoyt does, but I'm pretty sure Elite and Bear do it have. This may be an option to check out. 3) Used market. I don't get to AR, but maybe somebody on here has a friend selling or 'I know a guy'...but heck, if your looking for a particular make/model would pay postage and have somebody that can vouch for a seller...
Just sell your old bow and use the extra money towards the new bow. Then you dont have to worry about the budget so much, and get the bow that shoots the best for you. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
cant help ya here .. as for me a 33/34" bow/IBO 335-340/OVER a 6" brace(6.25-6 3/4", goes to 31" in 1/4" increments for fine draw length tuning w/ adjust mod's for longer draw adjustments .. 50-60lbs .. Bowtech or Elite only for me because of Deadlock and SET systems ... leaning towards Elite' cause of 1/4" draw adjustments, dont think BT has that .. everyone has their preference check out the NEW Strother series of Bows called Truth Bows ... some decent pricing on the Aluminum series https://www.trutharchery.com/ https://www.archerytalk.com/threads/truth-archery-al33-full-review-w-numbers.6319380/
Just my opinion of course, but anymore, I look for a 1 or 2 year old bow and let others take the beating on new (its almost like buying a truck these days.). Unless there comes a year where I want to upgrade and the newest flagship is a must have. You can find year old flagships in your price range all day long.
Trying to find an older flagship bow that is still in stock is an option and a route that I will go if I find the right one, I would love to find a flagship Hoyt or Prime that way, @Jezzy670 picked up a Prime that way a couple of years ago and got a sweet deal on it. I definitely plan a shooting more than one bow. There are three different shops within 20 minutes of me, so I will be checking those out. It has been a long time since I considered buying a new bow. I may head to Bass Pro and waste their time shooting a few of those Bear bows on the list, then buy from the local shop if that is the direction I go.
I can't help you make a choice on which bow cause I've been out of the vertical game for a few years now. BUT when I was buying different bows, I always went on archerytalk classifieds and got one. There are guys on there that seem to get a new bow every six months. They would always sell their used ones at a pretty good discount off new. Good luck Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Over Father's Day weekend, I went to a couple of local proshops and tested some bows. If you are looking for something in the $600-700 range, I highly recommend taking a look at the bows from Bear Archery in the price range. Below is a picture of how I ranked the bows from a few manufacturers at that price. I didn't make a purchase yet, but if I go brand new, that it will most likely be a Bear bow. That said, a forum member, to be named later, has made me an intriguing offer on his back up bow. Still working out the details of that.
