A buddy of mine told me about this vise. Think it would serve the purpose of a bow vise for the average at home "techie"? I'm not sold on the vacuum base (wouldn't work on my bench anyway) but he told me it also had 4 mounting holes so I could screw it down. I haven't gotten my hands on it yet but I'm definitely gonna check it out. http://www.lowes.com/pd_313561-5280...¤tURL=/pl__0__s?newSearch=true$Ntt=vise
Finch, I'd be skeptical of how much and where you'd be putting pressure on the bow you'd be putting in that. For roughly the same price, I'd suggest the American Archery Products 2010 Super Pro Vise. It's kind of an Apple knock off, but I can't see where it would have a disadvantage. I've used mine for a year or two now. It's like 25 bucks on bowhuntersuperstore.com. I checked bh.com, didn't see it there. IMO, 7-8 hundred dollar bows, deserve it. Never the less that vise looks like a cool one for other projects, thanks for bringing it to light.
According to the place I bought mine from; the only difference between the Apple and American is $35! Mine has worked flawlessly so far, and I'm thinking about buying a second one.
So you guys with the american archery products vise.... have any complaints? Why do people feel the need to pay $100+ for a vise if this one will do everything needed?
No complaints here. If I was going to get a nicer vise, it would cost me much more. I would be getting the Apple Pro Vise, (300) I don't feel it's anywhere close to necessary for a home shop or even most small archery shops. I don't feel there is any disadvantage in the American Archery vs the Apple Economy. You can buy 3 of the American for the price on one Apple.
I have the vise mentioned above that Ben is talking about. I did have an issue with mine. The threaded rod that the main adjustment knob threads on to stripped and will no longer fully compress/tighten on the bow. I've already hacked the bolt off, and will plan to tack weld a new bolt on, but I was a little disappointed seeing as little as I use it. Then again, I only paid a fraction of the price I would have with the apple vise. Here's another mid-range vise to consider: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1134802&highlight=bow+vise
Matt...I read about that very thing happening to these vises. I guess I'll take my chances and use your idea if it strips. Thanks.
