Well... Pretty simple story. It's windy today, spraying around a doe in estros buck bomb, and then the wind dies down. So I grunt again and a huge 150" 10 point comes in. Stops right under my tree stand and sees nothing is there so he turns around and heads back the other way. Then he stops at 20 yards. He wasn't broadside, but I still could have had a fatal shot on him. He was quartering away. IF I would have hit him it would have gone behind one shoulder and into or in front of the other. But I missed. Slightly off. My arrow was 1/2 an inch from killing my first deer. Anyhow. He jogged 30 yards in the trees and looked back. Then walked off.

    Think I'll see him again?

Yeah. It was right under him.

He also had plenty of twisted points. Non typical.

You can never be certain, but the only way to find out is to put in the time your stand. Have you seen him before? Or do you think he was just cruising around trying to find a hot doe?

Geesh, sorry to hear that, just depends on how much of his attention you got. Describe his body language as he left?

I'll be seeing him again. He was looking completely the other way when I shot. He jogged off 20 yards, looked back, and then walked off.

I feek your pain! I had a 19 yard broadside shot at a 150"+ bruiser on saturday morning but didn't have the window on my ground blind open wide enough. My expandable broadhead caught the bottom of the window and my arrow went right over his back. He looked around and trotted away slowly. I hunted again Sunday out of a different stand & saw him again.(not in shooting range). From my experiences if they aren't completely spooked you more than likely will see them again.

sorry to hear about that kyle, sounds like you should get another crack at him according to how the buck reacted to your shot, good luck!

Sorry guys. This is from last year. Just shot my first deer ever yesterday.

Buck taken Halloween night at 5:55. After climbing into stands around 1:30, my buddy Skyler saw this buck rubbing on a tree 30 yards away. He ran in and out of the woods twice never giving a clear shot until he came back in and bedded down 40 yards away through thick timber. A few hours later Skyler got down to see if he could put a good stalk on him. Walking up to the hill he was behind took a solid 30 or 40 minutes. When he could see the buck over the hill through the brush (5 yards) the buck got up and walked around the brush, right at Skyler. The buck got within a few feet before taking off to the South. I later got a text saying to get ready, an, and a few seconds later a buck came through. Never seen this buck on camera, even though new deer are coming through every year, there wasn?t much of a decision to be made at the time. I was going to shoot. He stopped down wind but kept moving, he was straight to my left and at 23 yards I took the shot. We followed a deep blood trail 40 yards until it took a cut towards the river. There he was. All we had to do was cross the river and drag him up the bank to the edge of the field. I?d say he?s a great first deer.

First deer ever. Not the biggest Buck. But I an happy with him. He is a solid 8. Hey. I'm 17. Ill have chances at bigger deer, but for now, he'll do. Everyone has to start somewhere.
