Jim i enjoyed reading that very much wow!! thats kinda an eye opener to how different culturs think. congrats on the bear, cant wait to see the pics!
I had a friend shoot one years ago, when I found it it had died in the fetal position in some tall weeds. Holding the coleman lantern I yelled hay Joey, here is your bear. Joe gets over to me takes one look and says, OH, Hell NO, the one I shot must have run that one over and killed it on its way out of here! They are hard to judge. Good read Jim, thanks for sharing with us.
Yes, they are very hard to judge. I had a hunter shoot one and when he was describing it to me he said "I don't know a lot about bears, but I know that he was as big as that table." (Pointing at the kitchen table.) His buddies were so excited that they all had to go help get the bear out. Well, when I found it, I asked him "Were you pointing at the coffee table?"
Power was out last night so I could not get to the pictures. Hopefully we will have power this evening and I can try again.
Sounds familiar Dan!! After I shot my 3rd bear I headed back to camp to wait for everyone else to get back from their hunts before we'd go back out and track mine. When we found It I said "this Isn't the same bear I shot". Lol!! I figured he weighed about 250 pounds dressed when I shot him, he dressed out at 150lbs.:d
you would think of it as the other way around but i guess not. sounds like you had a blast awesome post
Oh, it is truly amazing. These little pine squirrels that weigh all of 6-8 ounces sound like a train coming through the woods, and then you look up and there is a 150# bear standing 25 yards from you that never made the slightest crunch of a leaf or snap of a twig.
Those soft pads and furry feet really do make them silent. Even a 1500# brown bear can ghost in and out silently if they want, luckily they just don't care most of the time.
