Its been a odd but very good year for me. I posted about the first two so I might as well post number 3. The first was the neighbor who silently sat and watched me take a dump by his fence line and didnt make contact until I was done. I shot the biggest buck of my life, and today I was hit by and then tackled a deer.

Pheasant hunting today with three friends. We were working a cattail slough and all the cattails were head high or higher but that's where the birds were. There is a maze of deer trails through this large cattail slough so after busting trail for a while, I decided to make it easier on myself and get onto one of the deer trails. I had literally just set my second foot down onto the trail when I heard something and looked up to see a doe, 5 yards away flying down the trail at me. Neither of us could get out of the way. All I saw was a brown streak and she hit me square underneath the belly button, veered to the side and took out my left knee, flipping me briefly into the air and I came down directly on top of her chest. Feeling her hooves kicking, my immediate instinct was to wrap her and squeeze to avoid the hooves. Why I didnt just let her go is beyond me, but those hooves scared the crap out of me. I squeezed, one arm over her back and the other around the front of her chest, with my body weight on her chest/stomach. As I squeezed, she calmed and there I lay on top of a motionless doe. She was breathing hard, I was breathing hard and neither of us was moving.
The next thought was how to clear myself of her to avoid the hooves when she let out the most blood curdling bellow I've ever heard. That made me jump back and she was up and gone. There I sat wondering what in the living h*ll just happened to me. My knee is in quite a bit of pain tonight, and I am ever thankful it was a doe and not a buck because that would have been real ugly for me. Unreal. My buddies didnt know what to say.
Thats number three, I think I'm safe for the rest of pheasant season. What a year.

I know the GregH pose was an instant classic, but I have to admit. You may be the only person I have heard of spooning a whitetail  Imagine the story that doe would tell if they could talk.

Good stuff and glad you survived the ordeal with minimal injury

When you said you put your arm around her and laid on top of her, I was wondering where this story was headed. Did you at least offer her a smoke afterwards?

I prefer to sedate a doe before snuggling her. You're hardcore.

Lmao!! The "deer whisperer"!! Crazy story Craig! I've had close to the same thing happen in a cattail slough pheasant hunting but instead I was able to crouch down and the doe jumped right over the top of me. How she didn't touch me is beyond me.
