Lately I have noticed more stories (usually with people's first ever post) of people stating things that went wrong shooting, tracking, wounding more than one deer in a day, looking for one hour and giving up, etc. There is no way these are legitimate right?! Seems like guys are getting and mocking the sport/tradition of hunting more than anything. Thanks to all you guys who give us informative, and pertinent information to your hunts. If I am overstepping my boundaries, I apologize. It just seems like some of the threads you open because you want to help someone, but can't respond because I think it is a farce. Just wondering if anyone felt the same way?
You ever have one of those shots that you thought was perfect and it turned out it wasn't? In the heat of the moment, we see what we want to see sometimes, and no matter how true we believe the statement to be, it may not be the way it really happened. If you feel something is a farce, ignore the thread and move on. If you try to help someone and they get confrontational, ignore them and move on. If you post something and someone else mocks you, ignore them and move on.
These are very common issues with people new to the sport. The internet just brings them to our attention more often. If you went around your area and talked with a bunch of new bowhunters, you would find these situations occur quite often.
So your telling me, since i shot and hit a deer, and couldnt find it, that i am bad for the sport? Or a "newb"?
Add the theme to The Good, The Bad & The Ugly to your response and it gives it that extra special feel!
I agree that some sound suspiciously "troll-like". I was thinking that just this morning on one that I opened. I look at it objectively and if the subject hasn't been beaten to death in another post(s) I'll provide what I think is pertinent input. I refuse to get into a confrontation about someone's opinions on the subject though. I'll state what my experience has taught me in relation to the subject and then walk away. If it's really suspicious I'll just ignore it.
x2 rob is on point here. But we all have had differnt up bringings into the sport. Some will only shoot 20 yards some will try to turn their bow into a rifle and pop a 100 yard shot. IMHO 95 percent of this fourm is bowhunters that really care for the sport and thats why I'm on here daily. We all have different mentalities of bowhunting. I eat, sleep and breathe it 365 days a year. but i can't knock the guy that pulls his bow out 2 days before the season for a 30 minute pratice session. just my .02 cents
Every time I practise I'll shoot an arrow and think it was dead on and I end up dead wrong. Because we hunt with bows we've already made it harder.
That's a really solid statement. I think that justifies the issue perfectly. Humans make mistakes.. If you don't want to read about it then don't read the thread it is as simple as that.
THIS^^^^ New to the sport means to me that the person hasn't made enough mistakes yet. I know it isn't really the way we would like it to be but when first starting out you have to make mistakes to learn. The more mistakes you make the faster you get them out of the way and can move up the ladder in experience. I know because I remember my newb years....and that was years ago...I know I still have more mistakes up my sleeve somewhere...practice makes perfect but perfect with a bow is unachievable...IMO.
I've noticed very strange, spam-like first posts that are followed with a second post with a link. Could be coincidental, or not.
Unfortunately I think these nightmare posts are very true and there are 100's more that don't get posted. Worst part the boards this time of year (to me) are the hit one can't find it posts. I know it happens, I just don't see the need to post it on the internet.
I definitely understand that bad things do and will happen when it comes to bowhunting. Simon, that is not what I intended to say at all. From looking at the responses, a couple of other guys are feeling like some of these are SPAM as well. That was where I was getting. I understand that sometimes deer are lost, but it just seems odd that someone will say i didn't practice enoubh, i didn't wait for the right angle, i didn't look for the deer past dark, etc. In that situation, yes, I say it is fishy, and if not I hope he/she is a newbie. Most of you guys that post with regularity, give informative information if it is a bad hit, and I think everyone would be in agreement that we all hope you find it. I have hit deer in a different spot than I thought, but that was not where I was going with the post. I was just talking about the posts that feel like SPAM. Wasn't trying to ruffle feathers, but wanted to know if I was the only one who felt this way. I am all for new hunters enjoying bowhunting, I apologize if anyone got their feelings hurt. It was just my unimportant opinion!
I agree with RYBO on this statement maybe those post are about getting help for the next time out or just to here someone post I have been there also. But i agree the anti hunters will use these post against us.I have been bowhunting for over 30 years and here it all.
