Has anyone ever been busted using a thermacell? I used one last year because the mosquitos are so bad and they work great but I'm wondering if it spooks tell deer

Nope. I dropped one out a ladder stand once and had a doe walk up behind me, sniff it and walk on in. I won't good in the woods in early season without it!

No problem at all with a Thermacell. I have killed quite a few while mine was on. And they work.

Yes, I lived in FL for 18 years and once I got a thermacell I never went into the swamp without one.

Thermacells work great. It takes a bit for them to warm up, but once they do it keeps the bugs away. I don't usually use them while I'm hunting. I'm not convinced it doesn't have a negative impact on the deer. Just because a deer comes over to smell something doesn't mean it doesn't recognize that smell as a threat. Mature bucks and younger does (and even younger bucks) respond very differently to unfamiliar or threatening scents. Younger deer, especially does, are much more likely to take risks to investigate a threatening odor, whereas a buck will find a different route as soon as he catches the slightest whiff.

I've used one quite a bit in early season with no adverse impacts. Didn't diminish the number of deer that I normally see. I would like to see Thermacell make a change. They make a pad with earth scent to help mask the regular scent but while hunting bears I wish they would make one with the scent of frying bacon to help bring them in.;)

I have a question - I may come off stupid but... I might be.

I bought a Thermacell about 6 years ago and rarely use it. I lost the holder first off and need to replace it. I think I'm still on the first cartridge of fluid but the 50th pad.

Say I get the bass boat out to do a bit of night fishing and turn it on, use a bit of fuel and maybe 20% of the pads usefulness - what do you guys do with the pad when you turn it off and store it? A day or so later my pad would be solid white and looked unusable so I got tired of burning thru pads with very little use.

What in my routine is off? Mid TN is hot, muggy and humid and a mosquito's buffet I'd love to get my use out of it correctly.

Been using one in Florida for over 10-15 years actually.

    Deer ? No problem.

I do think it reeks a bit and I did get busted one morning by a pack of hogs early in the morning when it was still pitch black. It was the thermacell or my own clothes scent.

The whole apparatus or just the pad? I need to replace the little belt holder, they're cheap enough.

love mine. However I was hunting hogs in the everglades. At dark the skeeters just laughed at it. We each donated a quart of blood with the thermacell burring full blasst 2ft away.

Several people have asked this question and 99% of the responses are no, they don't bother game. I bought one for my mom and stepdad and will be getting one for spring turkey season next year for sure.
