Thinking about buying one of these for use in season, I've been getting eaten up over waterholes lately. Seen them used on a few of the shows on Sportsman Network, but they are always sponsors. Anyone ever used them? Some what concerned about picked up by the smell, but now they have an earth scented pad I was thinking of trying. Thoughts?

It works great both with the regular pad and with the earth scent, used it back in June, mosquitoes and blac flies were gone within 5 minutes!

I tried mine out today in the 90 degree weather in thick woods and didn't get bit by one mosquito! Craziness how they work.

I agree that they work awesome. We use them alot in early teal season. Although when I used the first time in Canada on a bear hunt, the bear seemed to be able to smell them. Everyone that used one was skunked until the night that the decided not to use it. Maybe just be a coincedence. But product wise they are great.

Those things are amazing. Used one in Canada early this summer and the mosquitoes and black flies were no match for it!

I agree that they work great at keeping the bugs away. The problem I have is that I think I have gotten busted because of the smell of it. I have used the regular and earth scent and been busted by both. Its hard to really say...they may have just smelled me and not the Thermacell...but my thing is that I'm a human and I can smell the funny smell from the thermacell so how can a deer not smell it? I'm still convinced I was busted because of the thermacell. I'm mostly using my in turkey season only now because of it.

I have read a ton of posts about thermacells on several different websites and the overwhelming consensis is that they don't spook deer. I have been using one for several years now and have had deer around me on many occasions with it running. I have no doubt that they smell it but I don't think it spooks them.
