I bought a thermacell this year for camping with my family, I would like to take it hunting in this early season but I could smell the matts and was wondering if any of you guys have had this spook deer? They have to be able to smell it also.

That's been the topic of discussion of many threads... can't say that anyone's ever come to a solid conclusion one way or the other.

Having said that though, I saw something pretty interesting here recently; Thermacell has just launched "Fresh Earth Smell" mats. Sounds pretty cool. :)

Well I had a buck in front of my stand yesterday at 10 yards with the wind blowing in his face and my thermacell on . He didn't seem to mind it. Give it a shot it helps keep the skeeters away.

Correct me if im wrong, but I thought the Earth Scent Thermocell cart. where for the earth scent only and don't contain the skeeter rep. I might be wrong but thats what I understood.

My guess is some deer will tolerate it and some won't. I'm thinking the more mature the deer the less likely it will tolerate it. Also as thermacell's get more popular in the woods the deer will have more and more encounters with hunters where the deer also smell's the Thermacell so even the younger deer will associate the smell with danger.

If the wind conditions are such that a deer can smell the thermacell...it no doubt is catching your scent as well.

Very good point. Its just damn hard to go into the woods in NC in Sept. without it. I love the thing because it works like nothing else. But I know the deer can smell it. Last sat. was opening day here and in the morning I had it on, and that evening went without it and didn't see the first deer all day so who knows. Until we can stop a deer and ask it I guess it will be just a guess.
