In Illinois I hunt the river bottoms and swamps. No way I could do it with out one. Have you ever been winded because of one?
the best, and I don't care if they wind me because without it, I would not be hunting in the early season!
I'm sure deer can smell it, just like they can smell anything else on me, but as others have already said, I won't hunt without it. Anytime of year in the South, it can warm up enough for skeeters to come out.
