Last year the Travel Channel aired a show called The Wild Within, hosted by Steve Rinella. Some of you may recall it. It was a hunting show that portrayed hunters in a great light and how we use our wild game. I personally thought it was great to see a show like this on the Travel Channel. It was aired to an audience that normally wouldn't see a hunting show and gave "us" the chance to show our true side of the story. Well, it appears that the Travel Channel has canceled the show and Steve has started a new show on The Sportsmans Channel called MeatEater. Honestly, I would have rather seen him be able to keep going with The Wild Within and continue to send the message he was on the Travel Channel. Has anyone seen MeatEater yet? Wondering how it is, since I don't get The Sportsmans Channel. http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-shows/the-wild-within/articles/the-wild-within http://themeateater.com/
DVR'd it Sunday and watched it that night - I was a big fan of Wild Within...this seems to be the exact same show - just different name (and now only 1/2 hour - thought Wild Within was full hour - could be wrong). First episode he was dropped off by bush plane in SE Alaska - blacktail deer with rifle - took a slice of loin, tenderized it with two rocks, and busted out his mini-pac stove and small bottle of oil he brought - fried up the loin medallion and ate it. I cannot stomach most hunting shows these days - so I really enjoy how this show has a focus on the meat vs trophy antlers/horns. In addition, it typically combines backcountry/remote settings and if it follows Wild Within at all - it will show other cultures and traditions that still rely heavily on hunting to provide. I'm a fan!
I was a fan of The Wild Within. Mostly because there was NO product placement. The show was about the particular hunt he was on, not the products his sponsors pay him to endorse.
