Germ, I have to agree with RC on the fact that there are NO consumers without jobs. The state has to attract jobs before there is ANY percentage of consumer economics. A state that is rife with union bullies will never have much success attracting new businesses. A state that can not balance a budget will also fail to attract quality jobs. This is not a chicken and egg debate about which came first. The jobs must be in place for the economy to float. The econmy floats on the back of the consumer. The fact that we have little industry left on our soil is a testament to the fact that unions became too powerful and greedy. More, more, more, was just never enough. Then, they convinced their members that the jobs were exported due to corporate greed. Sadly, many believed it. Some still do. Those that understand the basics of economics know the truth. You cant run a private business the way many states and our Federal government do.
Fletch it works both ways, their our no jobs without consumers. No where did I say business were not important, in fact most business are consumers. Right now all states are doing is playing risk game with current business that are left here. We need to stop competing against each other and attract new business. I am not saying I am right or he is wrong, just looking at the issue from a different view. Not my quote, but I always liked it ..consumerism is heart , brain and lungs, liver of capitalism.
There will always be consumers. We have basic needs that will always need to be met. Without additional jobs, the economy weakens because there is less money in the pockets of consumers. With unreasonable demands by unions for wages and benefits, there will be no new jobs. It is as basic as economics gets. Walker understands it, and it seems that he is not the only one. I think the Unions understand it too, but they know it is the beginning of the end for them to admit it. My wife was "forced" to belong to a teachers union a few years ago. Her dues were thirty-some dollars per pay period. Of that, $1 stayed local. The rest went to the national offices. A huge percentage of those funds are spend on glossy political advertisements and brainwashing propoganda that filled our mailbox on a daily basis. The percentage of dues that is spent on pushing the liberal agenda by the unions is staggering. Why do you think that is so? If the union is actually a good and necessary thing, why would they need to push such a radical agenda? In my opinion, they know that some day, we will figure out that they have done more to stifle jobs and our economy than any President or congress could ever manage in a hundred years.
WI is trying to get a mining bill passed and to attract an iron ore mining company to come to WI and set up shop. This will create hundreds if not thousands of jobs in WI. I am unaware of many WI consumers of iron ore. I know I nor anybody I know is buying or looking to buy iron ore. Bringing these jobs to WI will be great for the economy and will employ lots of people. Once that happens, these employed people can become consumers. If they are unemployed now, they are not consumers. The jobs have to come first in order to create consumerism. Electing Walker means WI is more business friendly and that’s good for WI. The alternative was Barrett and he would make WI a tax hell discouraging business and industry from coming to our state.
Create jobs! Create jobs! Create jobs! OK, doing what? You can't create a job, if there is no need for said job. A consumer based economy just seems doomed to fail. If there are no consumers who want to buy products, then there aren't going to be any jobs for people to make products that aren't going to get bought. Kind of like which came first the chicken or the egg.
You guys can stay on this union topic, but I have not mention union's at all, so what's your point? I do not care, it's not the point of getting a consumer base with more money. Is that the only argument you have here? Bring up unions? Here some facts, the past ten years the bottom 99% income has been flat, top 1% has done well, but the .01 has done really well. Now in 1929 top .01 % held 11% of the wealth, remember what happen next? Guess what the percentage was in 2007 for that group? 11% The questions is how do we get 99% moving again? This has nothing to do with unions, so leave that bs out of it. Since 1976 we have stayed pretty flat, attracting business is part of it, but it has to be new business. Your wife can go teach at a private school fletch, my guess is it's like Michigan they do not pay as well. With less consumer income the economy weakens also, if no ones buys it, there is no sense making it. Wow other folks buy iron, well consumers do. Where did I state consumers are only in Wisconsin? Edit Fletch sorry I did mention Finland, but I just find it funny they can make it work and we cannot, and yes it takes both sides.
Slow your roll there young fella. Look to the title of the thread. “The walker recall election. Judgement day.” The OP’s preamble stated: “Its been a long time coming. After the last 19 months of political turmoil and protests the recall election is today. Will the majority say they approve of what walker has done or throw him out?” Lets break that down so that you can be brought up to speed about the subject matter. From day one, the recall petitions were because of the unions and collective bargaining. The leftists, occupiers, unionists and malcontents, started this and for that I say Thank you! We couldn't have done it without them. Without their tantrums, outbursts and boorish behavior many might have stayed home for the recall election. Without their filthy, pot smoking hemp headed minions occupying and violating the Capitol we might have been complacent. Without their obnoxious protests, boycotts and other actions from their union playbook, we might have sat this one out. But they couldn't hold back. They couldn't restrain themelves and behave like adults. They couldn't accept the 2010 election results and the votes of lawmakers. We sat and watched as they erupted in a juvenile hissy fit that embarrassed Wisconsin. The spectacle they created is what motivated us. And thanks to their ill-mannered behavior, we won. We turned out. Big time! And now we are organized and energized. Committed. "All in". And we aren't going away. We now have our own organizations (no dues required), an army of volunteers and the means to communicate. And countless new sources of funding, including a donor base from all 50 states. And we have "iverifythe recall" to ferret out your infiltrators in their future local elections. So thank you UW TA's, WEAC, SEIU, MTI, AFSCME Council 24 in Union Grove and WI prison guards,. Thanks for the death threats, the intimidation, the bullying, belligerence, thuggery and goonish behavior. The lack of ethics and the failure to enforce rules and laws. Thank you for putting your selfish, greedy motives on display for all taxpayers to see. Your antics might have made you feel good but they didn't make you look good. They sickened the rest of us. Thank you University doctors for writing the phony excuses; Madison teacher union members for calling in sick or dragging your students to the protests without permission. Thank you Katherine Windels for making death threats against the Governor. The noontime capitol singers who taunted Sheboygan high school students. Thank you WEA Trust for raping Wisconsin taxpayers. Thank you Gwen Moore for your embarrassing minstrel show. And thanks all of you for harassing the Walker family at their private home. You have all been exposed. Your tactics have been rejected. Your bad behavior has been forever captured on You Tube. And Mayor Barrett. How grateful we are that you chose one low road after another in your issue-less campaign against the Governor. This was your strike three. You are out. Take a seat on the bench and stay there. This was your final at-bat. This was all about a union tantrum. Period. This was not about “Consumerisim” If not for the unionistas, there would be no recall tantrum and there would be no thread here so please try to stay on topic.
Clearly you do or you would not expend the high amount of energy on this thread that you have. (even if off topic) I sit here in the middle and laugh at you guys on both extreme sides of this. You are on the far leftist side of this and as a MI resident it clear you dont have a firm grasp of either the situation nor this thread.
Yes, I think that would be best. The words you type here come at a cost. In your case, the cost is respect and credibility and your comments have cost you dearly in both regards and based on my readings, you were running on vapors to begin with. Should you elect to actually make comments that are on topic or you have questions about WI, feel free to come back. Based on your comments I would encourage you to ask as many questions as possible.
Like I do, I my stomach, boxers down around my ankles. But again, you are getting off topic again. I stuggle with you younger guys from this generation and your inabilty to focus on a topic.
Today, it was announced that the final recall race for a senate seat in SE WI appears to be won by the Dem challenger. When the results are certified next week we will no doubt here from both parties as to what this means to the WI legislature. I’ll save you the wait. It will mean nothing. The WI legislature is not in session and wont return to session until mid January of 2013. That means the Dems will hold a one seat majority during a time when the legislature is standing in recess so their majority is a figurative one only. Once every 10 years, legislative districts are redrawn and this activity is undertaken by the party in power. Either party in charge of this redistricting, does so to their advantage. Since the maps were redrawn with the Repubs in charge of the Senate, Assembly and Governor’s office, they drew up maps that advantage them. (both sides have done this) Nobody is under the illusion that the temporary Dem majority will remain. Its commonly accepted that the Republicans will pick up between 4 to 6 seats in the Senate in November of this year and not only take back the majority but will have a super majority. This will return the Republican majority in all 3 seats of power. My guess is this will usher in more tantrums from the party no in power.
I agree, I am sorry to have participated in a civil conversation with you that you participated in freely. Only to find out you did not want to have it. Please accept my apologies mr crab tree.
