I agree. Most things take multiple steps in order to achieve the desired outcome. My recent focus over the past couple years has been to improve the quality of wildlife habitat on my land.

80 GOOD acres is plenty good to grow mature bucks. give them a (sanctuary) where no man can tread.
also keep in mind, an 80 may only keep/hold ONE mature buck a year.

If only one of these bucks is making it through you at least have a target for the next year keep on keeping on. Good things come to those who pass! Good Luck this fall!

Yes, which is why I don't like the term "trophy management" because the bucks I shoot don't fit in the plan but I see every deer as a trophy. Not everyone has the same idea of what a trophy is! But like the others have stated, it will happen!

My Dad and I have done it with 12.

It is a heck of a rollercoaster and can be extremely frustrating. Like Buckeye said, my trophy is different then my neighbors. There are plenty bucks in my area and if the neighbor tags the first little guy that walks by, all those other bucks get bigger. I struggled with the fact that if I pass them the neighbors will kill them. Recently I have grown past that. I haven't shot a buck in a few years and I don't care, it'll happen soon enough.

We have a sanctuary on our lease in OH, and I think it's one of the most important things we've done for helping the survival rate and holding bucks. Give them food, water, and safe haven they'll stick around.
