I've always been amazed the things you find when you are lost in the woods. Or should I say "off track".

This afternoon I was heading to a stand location that I've never hunted before when I got way off-track. Aerials and topos give great information. But sometimes it takes boot leather to find some of those really good spots that other hunters overlook IMO.

I found a half dozen cars (early 50's i think). They all had trees growing up through their windows :tu:

If I get a chance this fall, I'll head back there and take some photos.

That is pretty cool Fitz. Would love to see that. Don't you wonder what the story is with stuff like that?

I've come across old logging camps in the National Forest in the Northern Wisconsin a few times. Pretty cool stuff.

Have come across very strange things over the years tromping around these mountains. Old mining camps are always fun.

It is crazy all the things you find when you don't expect it. Fitz bringing up the cars reminds me of a spot in Ontario that we call "The Cars."

While shed hunting a new area one year I came across a bunch of rocks that spelled out the number 222. On another shed hunt I found rocks in the shape of 213. Now, there was no road access to this area until just before I shed hunted it and the rocks were there a long time. They had to come from someone who hiked in off of the Winnipeg River.

The number 213 and a view of the WPG River from where the rocks are.

I found a little stick figure hanging from a tree like the one in blair witch project one afternoon back in high school. I left 15 minutes before dark just for good measure. lmao

    :lmao: LOL... nice!

I found a half-standing log cabin, tucked in the middle of a valley a few years back... a couple miles off an old mining road. I've never heard any of the locals (or anyone else, for that matter) speak of it.

I actually found a cave one time while scouting when I went into it, I found that some local teens had made a fort. Now I have built some great forts in my time but this was like the playboy pad of forts. I will head back to it this year when i hunt and take some pics. I never thought of taking pics of it

There is an old US POW camp where the United States kept German prisoners of war up here in the UP during world war 2, also a huge canyon when German prisoners that escaped made camp into a sandstone bluff. All thats left from the camp are stone pillars from the fence. Lots of history in the woods!

I found an old still site by a creek ounce. The coolest find was by one of brothers good friends...While hunting black tails in Alkaska he hears a noise off in the distance. So he starts making his way to the sound. As he gets nearer he realized it was a woman's voice yelling for help. Long story short, he finds her takes her back to her family, they date, get married and have 3 kids now.
B-T-W she was 7 miles from were she left the trail!

    Dan,

    2+2+2= 6

    2+1+3= 6

if you find one more rock number cluster in your life that adds up to 6...I'm just saying.

    Eric
