So I went out to my back yard and sat in my ground blind. Wouldn't you know it a doe comes it at 16 yds, slight quartering towards with front foot up. Due to my lack of confidence I took my 20 gauge shot gun out with a Winchester Slug. I pulled the trigger and due to my excitement I think grazed her back or hit her in the shoulder with hair all over but no blood. My son and I tracked her for 100 plus yds with about 7 spots where she laid down of fell down but still no blood.

What a crazy experience...this is why we hunt.

Should I go out tomorrow and look more or you think she will be okay?

Definitely look some more and work on calming down before the shot. It is 10X harder to control your nerves with the bow.

Maybe put up an aerial picture of your property and label fields (food sources), ridges (if you have any) and what heavy cover places (possible bedding area). We'll try our best to help you gain as much knowledge and ideas of your land, in return you can use this knowledge/guessetimation to know where to start scouting for next season.

Don't lose hope, whitetails are one of the hardest and brightest North America game you can hunt.

You can never lose confidence - Just keep trying different things.

Most important of all - SCOUT. Put the boots on the ground during the off season and your hard work will eventually pay off.
