So how was everyone's opening day? My morning was extremely slow. Not a sound. This evening I had a couple does at 80 yards. THEN, as I was getting down a doe came right up to my ladder, it almost stepped on my bow! Didn't have any idea I was there. So I had to wait until she went on before I could get down. Also, I grabbed the card when I was out there aaaaannnnnnddddddd.....
I had a quiet morning yesterday. Rainy and windy but I went out for a few hours. Only thing I heard was some turkeys and the death cries of a Fisher cat at 5 am. I need to get a stand up in Massachusetts for 8/15 open. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
Chris, it looks good. That is one nice looking 8 pointer. I didn't get out this weekend, had ticket to the playoffs. Just sat in a corn field Friday morning looking for some turkey's. But the wind keep them from showing up. Will be going out tomorrow night.
Had a pretty good opening weekend. Saturday morning saw 6 does at different times. Nothing Saturday night. Then last night I had a great hunt. Saw 9 does and a couple fawns feeding out into an alph alpha field. I had a shot a two does around 5 but the wind was perfect and the action was good so I waited it out. Then about 6:30 this guy decides to show up. He was feeding, but never made it closer than 100 yards. It was good to see him though. He is a nice one! I will be back out Tuesady afternoon. Good luck team and keep hunting hard!!!
Eric, that sure is a nice one. Maybe Tuesday night will a great night for both of us and team 26. This is always a good week seeing some great shooter buck's and once in awhile killing one. My biggest buck to date was killed on Oct 6th.
Saturday afternoon i had a wet and uneventful sit. I actually took my blind out because it was raining so hard. I packed it in a little earlier than normal, about 15 minutes before last light. On my walk back to the house i jumped a doe in a yard along the dirt road to my house. As i approached a field edge i could see a couple heads watching me. I tried to get my binos up so i could see if there were any bucks in the field but my binos were pinned to my chest by the back pack straps from my blind. All of a sudden i see 6 flags jump out of the field. I have one decent buck on trail camera in the area so i would imagine he was out there. Going to set up in that area Thursday night and see what happens. Then friday i am heading up north to hunt that afternoon and saturday(no sunday hunting here)we have a 170 plus buck on trail cam up north, but this is some serious big woods, so just catching a glimpse of a buck up there is an accomplishment.
Well sat last night, wildlife was moving pretty good. Saw 2 doe, 3 raccoon and 10 turkeys. Just no bucks. Be back out this weekend. The weather here is going to be a little nice for October hunting.
Went out last night and had another encounter with a shooter buck. Real nice eight pointer, probably between 125" and 130". He was at 20 yards broadside but it was just too dark, about 6:50 p.m. I elected not to shoot since he was very calm and had no idea I was there. I will be in the same spot tonight and hopefully he shows about 10 minutes earlier than last night.
Went out last night to a public land spot that I had scouted during the dog days of summer and hadn't been to since. Hiked in about three miles. It was a lot more grown up than it had been in the summer and it was a hell of a hike. Worked out well though, because no one had been back there yet. Got up in the tree about an hour before shooting light went out. About ten minutes before shooting hours was over I had three or four deer walk in to the North of me. They were about 30 yards away, but behind some heavy cover. They circled my stand and were still about 30 yards away, but there was only about 2 minutes left and I couldn't discern single deer at this point. I knew they were there and I could see them moving, but I couldn't see enough for an ethical shot. I had a buddy of mine in a tree about 200 yards South of me and I waited for him to start getting out of his stand. It was enough to get them to move off and not notice I had been there, so hopefully the spot isn't burned. I'm almost happy I didn't get a shot though, it would have been a hell of a hike back carrying my stand, sticks, bow and dragging a deer. I did notice a couple of rubs while I was sitting in the stand. Nothing huge, but at least there's more than just does back there. I'll probably head to a buddies private land this weekend. They've seen a bunch of deer up there all season and have even harvested some big tasty does. Hopefully, I'll at least get to draw back. Good luck to everybody else, keep on keeping on this season.
I am in my climber right now. After i knocked an arrow and hung up my bow i dropped my quiver. So if i am fortunate enough to get a shot, i better make it count as it will be my only shot
Haven't really been able to hunt early season but things will start to pick up next weekend when the season opens in Massachusetts. Here's another pic of the 9 I'm after. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
Thats a great deer there Chart. Get after him! As for me, I've had six sits and I haven't drawn back once yet. My trigger finger is getting real itchy and I wouldn't want to be a doe, or a big buck for that matter, around me this weekend.
Went out Saturday and Sunday. Didn't see a single deer. I'm hoping the weather change later in the week will get them moving a little more. Had a hellacious three mile hike to the one spot Saturday for nothing, than a 1.5 hour drive to a spot Sunday, only to see nothing yet again. Guess I'm paying my dues this year.
Hang in there guys. I went out Friday and all I saw was a coyote that I couldn't get stopped. He was only at 20 yards and broadside. I yelped and grunted but he wasn't stopping. That was all I got to hunt this weekend. We had a surprise party for the girlfriend and then went to the colts game yesterday. This week it should start getting more active around here. Temps have been in the mid 80s (disgusting). However, by Saturday, they will be back in the low 60s.
