Alright Eric, good job man. Way to put the deer down.

I'll be getting out this weekend up in the big woods. Hopefully I can put a buck down, otherwise I'll just be filling the freezer some more.

Sat this mourning and it was the first time in about 12 sits that I did not see a deer. Got out tonight just for 1 1/2 hours but did see what i think was a large buck. Only saw it for a couple seconds didn't even have time to look with the bino's. Then for the last 20 minutes I was in the stand could hear a buck chasing a doe. Back on that stand in the am. Hope it is finally rigth stand at right time.

    Good luck this weekend guy's.

My stinking job is keeping me out of the woods. I haven't been hunting in days. I've been out of town basically all week. I might get in stand tonight for a bit. The first of next week I have to go to the south so that will be out of question also.
We'll get it though. They should start really moving through my woods now that we've been gone a few days.

Well early archery season ended last night here in Wisconsin. Are gun season starts here tomorrow, so my i hope my big bucks make it till Monday when I will be back in my stand with my bow. Going up north gun hunting Sat and Sunday. The last two day deer movement has been kind of slow. Maybe the pressure climbing to over 30 slowed them down. I ended up sitting 35 times, for 104.75 hours, with two antlerless deer down. At least I have something to show for my time. Hit it hard again next week then back to working hard at my job.

Gun season is brutal here in Indiana. 16 straight days of slaughter. By the end of it every deer is so smart its not even funny, or they are dead. I'm all for gun hunters, but I think Indiana needs some changes to it's season's.

I would like if they made it like Illinois or other states where it comes in on weekends or days at a time. I just think that 16 straight days to gun hunt is too many.

Then after that we have a 16 day muzzelloader season. It's just too much in my opinion.

It still wont keep me from heading out with my bow though. A couple more does in the freezer would be nice before January 1st.
Keep up the good work guys and keep hunting hard, it will pay off!!!

Heading up North to the big woods tonight, I'm so excited, I'm having trouble staying calm at work.

My buddy's 10 and 40 up there has deer in it and the deer weren't really moving much during the first couple weeks of the gun season. Hopefully we see something and I get some more meat in the freezer.

    Go get'em Big!

Well tonight after work I'm going to set my climber up for tomorrow and scout a spot for the morning.
I'm pretty excited about this place. I've been trying to get in here for a year and the guy finally invited me to come with him. He's a co-worker of mine. It's his family's land and as far as I know none of them really hunt. He only does a few times a year.
Not only that it shares a border with a national forest. Looking at the ariel there are a ton of good draws, some crop fields (cut) and a few ponds in the woods. If it goes well I'm going to see if I can't toss a few bucks their way and lease it for next year. They're pretty weird about their land and having some skin in the game may show them I'm serious about it.

Now if only I had my portable hang on already!!!

I'm in the stand now. Had two yearlings and a small four point come in. Not the buck I'm looking for though. I'm only allowed to take mature deer here on the private land in ma per my land lord. I'm okay with that.

    Any luck???

Well this morning was a total bust. Like the old saying goes, what can go wrong, will go wrong.
It started last night. I was packing up the truck for the trip (it's almost 2 hours south). Well I laid my soft bowcase against my tire while I loaded some stuff. Well needless to say I went in to get gas without putting the bow in the truck. I almost fell to my knees in tears when I saw what happened (and hearing a crush). LUCKILY, the crush was the arrow tube and the bow made it completely unhurt. I shot it 15-20 times to make sure and it was spot on. Being completely blown away by what just happened I left my card in the atm at the bank (and I have to go to 'bama next week for work).

So, I get down there. I was pumped. I get there, get all loaded up, and head to my climber. I get all the way to the stand and sure enough, my release is in the truck. So I run back and get it. Ok, back at the stand, still plenty of time before sunlight. I get in, start to climb and nothing. It was a large tree with big chunks of bark and the climber was getting caught, I was going nowhere. So I take it down, move it 30 feet and stick it in another tree. Well this tree sucked. The climber never did feel secure, I was freezing cold from sweating, and sure enough, I had to start dealing with the bank to get my card back.

Needless to say the last 24 hours has been frustrating and hunting this weekend was a total bust, however, I don't have a wrecked bow, I don't need to close my checking account, AND, I have a money 300 acre, oak filled, pond and stream fed woods that I have the rights to hunt.

This weekend, I'll get to hit it again.

Oh, and big props to my brother, he busted a little 10 pointer this morning. Oh yeah, it was out of my stand, that always helps the frustration (I would have let him pass anyways, he was a tiny 10 pointer). However, I have him hooked and that will really help. He will be a big help with the food plots and turning the cow pasture to woods.

No luck up here. The aren't very many deer around and the ones that are aren't moving very much. Wasn't prepared for the 10 degree weather either. It made for some uncomfortable sits without my warmer boots and pants.

Well have sat the last two nights without seeing a deer. I guess gun hunting has got the deer shut down. Going to try and sit everyday through Sunday.

I'm going out tonight to the new place to stage my climber for red Friday.
The plan is to go out tomorrow morning at my place, then I have all the festivities.
