My kansas doe. saw her at first light this morning. She came broadside at 22 yards and I drilled her.She went about 30 yards and dropped. Now time for a big buck to fall.

Awesome, nice work. I havent been able to connect quite yet, however I'm getting really close. Tomorrow morning, given the rain holds off somewhat, I should be able to put something on the ground.

Nice looking deer dmen. I'm hoping to get out all day tomorrow and seal the deal. Setting up on private land tomorrow. Gun hunting is in full swing here in MN and I don't dare venture onto public land.

Had a nice buck move past me at 830 am. Saw him 3 different times flying around. There must be a doe in heat somewhere close cause he was on a mission. He was as close as 35 yards but moving to much. Tried grunting and then rattling, he never even looked.

Put a deer down finally. Thought it was a yearling doe, turned out to be a button buck. Here in MN we get to use a bonus tag on those and keep searching for a real buck. Not sure how that plays into the contest here though.

Just happy to have some venison in the freezer.

Nice doe dmen. Bigstick I think it would count as a doe. In Wisconsin it would be an antler less deer , because it needs 3 inches of antler on one side. I've sat a lot since last Friday but have only seen small bucks and a few doe. The weather here is kind of sucking right now. That is why I'm at work instead of in my tree stand. Maybe going out this afternoon. The rut is going kind of slow. Hope the full moon and some colder temps gets it going full swing.

Nice work Ryan, I'll check and make sure but my guess is that it's a doe. Who knows though.

Yeah I should be going out to the stand now, instead i'm inside because it's pouring down rain. however, the front will pass through in a bit then the temps are supposed to plummet.

Monday I took my little girls to lunch since i've been out of town and hunting a lot and on our way home there was the 10 pointer i posted many pages back chasing a doe around a cut bean field. It's a few miles from my house and on a busy road. We got to pull over and watch them for a bit. The girls just loved it. They wanted me to get out and shoot it to put it on the wall so the one I have now will have a friend.

Well, I'm going to get a little bit more sleep and plan on an all day sit. These are the exact same conditions I popped my 154 in.

Good job on the button. I am almost positive it counts as a doe, heading to the stand now, should be a great morning.

Little story on the deer last night too:

I was sitting in a ladder stand on private land that another person has had there for at least a few years. Got in the stand about 2:30pm and sat for a long time without seeing anything but the abundant number of fuzzy nut hunters in the area. To make it worse, there are a lot of dead leaves on the ground there and the squirrels sound like a massive buck charging through the underbrush. It got my heart racing a few times to say the least.

At about 4:30, I heard a very small disturbance in the brush which I thought must be a squirrel. When I turned my head to look in that direction, I got to see the tail end of a fork walking through some heavy brush at 30 yards. He had one of the darkest tails I've seen on a deer, it was nearly black. I sat perfectly still for a long while hoping that either another buck would show up shortly or this one would flush a couple does. After nothing came for awhile, I relaxed, sat back down and started to daydream a little.

Where I hunt, there is a trail that runs North to South behind my stand and another trail that intersects it just North of me. At about 5:21, I was sitting quietly, trying not to doze off when I caught movement in my peripheral vision to the North where one trail meets the other. I slowly turned my head and sure enough, a rather active deer was walking West towards the edge of the trail. I brought my bow up and he turned his head at me. I sat motionless for a few seconds before he turned his head and I began to draw back. I was just about to reach the valley when he looked directly at me. He sat there watching me for what seemed like an eternity while I held my bow at the full 65 pound draw weight. Finally, when he turned his head back down, I was able to pull the rest of the way back and anchor quickly. I aimed, released and watched the arrow penetrate exactly where I aimed, which was a little farther back then I would have liked, right at the back of the lungs. He took off into some of the thicker cover and I heard him go about 20 yards before what sounded like him walking in circles and finally falling over.

I took twenty minutes, let the landowner know I had dropped a deer (I knew he'd want to come help me find it) and then got down to find my arrow. Found the arrow buried in about six inches of dirt. Good, bright blood all the way down the arrow and a decent trail just a few feet from where I shot him. I started walking the blood and got to the point where I'd heard him start walking around in circles and found massive amounts of blood. It looked like it had began to spurt profusely and covered trees and bushes up to waist level all around. Then, it went cold and I couldn't do anything to find the trail again. As it was dusk and the lights weren't helping much yet, I decided to wait until the landowner and his friend showed up and for it to get darker. I headed back to my car to pack all my gear besides my bow, knife and gut gloves.

When the rest of the search party showed up we started back on the blood trail and got to the same point where the blood seemed to stop. Since the two other people with had little experience tracking deer before, I quickly gave them some instruction and sent them around looking for any sign that I might have missed. After about 20 minutes, I finally found a drop of blood the size of a BB on a leaf and we spread out and started walking towards the direction the trail had taken. We went about ten feet and the guy to the North of me stumbled on him.

When I opened up his chest cavity, I could see that I had punctured both lungs and the stomach was still in one piece, thankfully. I was a little surprised to find some rather odiferous, greenish bile between the lungs and the stomach. It almost smelled a little like gut, but I couldn't find any punctures in the stomach. The only thing I can think of is that I had nicked the liver slightly, or that when the lungs collapsed, something drew up to fill the void. Either way, it was a quick field dressing, hosed it off just in case the green liquid would harm the meet and took it home. It was skinned and quartered and put in my fridge in less than an hour.

Going to head out in an hour or so to sit in the 30 mph wind. The rain is going to turn to snow. Maybe the deer will get up and move. Seen a nice 10 pointer at 4am on my way to work, about a minute from my house.

I was out most all day. I have to go pick the kids up from preschool then I'll be back out. Will the deer even be moving in such wind?

I won't know if I don't go. My stand is on the down wind side of a hill so maybe the wind will not be so bad.

It depends on if they get spooked or not. I've seen deer move in a blizzard because a tree made too loud of a noise.
