Leak confirmed, since they put the new meter in at the right away it is my resposibility. He couldn't give me any names of who to call for estimates but said in his dealings with others $2-3k.
So I decided to go to Chipotle today it has been a few years. I go in the building and evidently it was 2 minutes early. I am standing there at the counter and the manager said technically you should not be in the store until we are open for future reference, I stopped her right there and said future reference not needed, turned around and walked out.
Going to work woods and forgetting cell. DUMB A$$!!! Loading Gator with big log sections shoulder high and 9-12 across into Gator...Well you guys may know Gator tail gate is hip high. I release a 70# or so log from ice and start pulling it off a pile of logs. I flip these end over end to get to tail gate then lift and slide them on. Anyways I'm backing up dragging this off pile and A.J. decides to charge me. Needless to say I fell backwards to the ground . But the log in my hands came with me pinning my leg and wedging my boot between the two logs under it. I immediately realize I'm trapped with little leverage because both legs are out stretched and I'm on my butt. Thank God A.J had his shock collar on because he took all this commotion as a game and was pouncing me. By the time I hit 3 he sat himself ears pinned back looking quiet chased. Honesty here, first time worry snapped to fear when I couldn't move that log off my left side and bad ankle was pinned at a sharp forward angle. Mind you still in low 30's and I had a pair of tights under sweats and a fleece under a fleece, gloves were a bit wet. Gator was running per hubbys request. Calmed myself and after 20 mins. I finally was able to push the log completely across my chest (btw that took courage seeing how heavy it was)and kick it off with my free leg' So DO NOT FORGET PHONE DUMMY.
First estimate, is roughly $1800-2200. He wasn't sure how much the sidewalk permit fee was. Will email me final estimate after talking with city and his excavator. Been awhile since he has had to deal with a sidewalk in my city. He can dig Friday with an emrrgency order but would be better Monday if I can wait. Sticker shock gone, came in on the low end of water dept. guys estimate. 2 more estimates tomorrow and awaiting a call back from 4th guy, going to get an estimate for replacing existing line and installing a sleeve to make future replacements simple. Said both would be in the same ballpark. We'll see.
Hhhmmmm I'm thinking not too bad. Our underground electric burnt up in a spot just before the house..actually made glass. They had to dig through the semi frozen ground by hand after trying to find the break over a 200 ft line they fixed it for a fewthou. Many years ago.
Got home today had an instant idiot sighting, full size pick up on the lake pulling a house not a real big house. He will be very lucky if he only gets stuck in the slush.
Got to remember if the line coming in from street is leaking, the meter inside your house won't show it moving. Only if the leak is inside the house. That is the reason they installed a new meter at the street. That way If you develop a leak under ground, they can still charge you for the water usage. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Weather nerds calling for winter weather (snow /ice here) on Sunday. Best get the bread and milk now... If it's rain on Sunday, expect another rant.
This is a 48 foot stretch. I'm almost certain already I'll be going with this guy. I almost called him and said do it, but I wouldn't be doing my due diligence not getting multiple quotes. He was at my house in under an hour from the initial call to him. 2 others have yet to call me back and have a 10am and late afternoon for tomorrow. I will be having it done next week, starting around the 20th signals are showing the midwest having cold temps not seen since 2015 and that would definitely suck for outdoor work.
It was that and here the home owner is reaponsible for their side of the meter. So had this happened before they installed the meter I'd just have been inconvenienced with no water and a torn up yard which they would have to return to it's original state. But yeah, the meter inside told me the leak was outside. I was 85% certain it was my line as I could hear the hiss of water moving even when I closed main shut off before the meter. The other 15% was me wishing it was the neighbors line(knowing it wasn't) Guy today thinks he can only have to dig at the sidewalk and pull the new one through with the old line. Only caveat to that is if the break in the pipe weakened the pipe and it separates they'd have to dig further into the yard to get to remaining segment.
I was a day late on that reply and saw you found the problem. Not a hard fix, just a complete mess to deal with. I've done it myself a couple times. Last time it cost me less then $5 in parts to fix, but took all day to dig it up and bury it. Hopefully you can get one of the contractors to work with you and give you a better rate if it's a easy fix. Keep us posted how it goes. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
