My son texted me this morning a kid that we coached our first year coaching together the young lad a 3rd grader just committed to play college ball after his graduation in June. My son said it made him feel old, I had to call BS on that, he is still on my insurance.
I've used "chew" but never reguraly. Talking way back when with Red Man Plug and as recent as Skoal Bandits. Yeah, I never got into the fine cut chit, Copenhagen burned the chit out of my mouth when I tried to act like my Grandpa once. Never went back that route. I did smoke for nearly 17 years, so can associate with an addiction/habit/tendency as that is what it is but rarely all three. I can tell you for certain though, you have to be done with it to succeed. You can't do it saying because this or for that, you have to truly commit to yourself you are done with it. Cold turkey is the way to go in that sense, patches and other things do more to feed the need rather than starve the need into submission. I'm not lecturing you by any means, I know the need/addiction is real, but I also know the struggle and what works is real as well. You have to want to quit for yourself, not others. Truthfully, if I knew you and your family personally I'd use the love of your grandchild against you. That is one person that I think could give you that extra incentive to hold firm and enjoy the freedom of the "grasp". I wish you luck in getting there, been there amd done that albeit a different fix, but a fix just the same. You got this!
First time I tried chew it was skoal when there was just 1 flavor mint. We were putting hay up in a loft I tried it, I ended up swallowing it all and I never got sick, guess that was a curse. The thing about my chewing was that I did not spit I gutted it, pretty much meant I could have a dip in when ever I was awake or not eating. I had tried to quit in the past cold turkey and it did not go well, I decided the gum was the best option. A big part of my motivation to quit is my grandson combined with my sister' s recent diagnosis. Seeing a sibling get serious cancer scares the living **** out of you, makes you realize you have to take care of yourself. Plus at this point I have made it 5 days would be stupid if I went back now.
It will be 2 years in April when I quit smoking. I smoked for 37 years. When I quit I said I was doing it because it cost so much but I was kidding myself. In reality, I was killing myself and I wanted to live. Not much of a choice there. I quit cold turkey and didn't find it as hard as I thought it would be. My bar has a closed off, ventilated room for smokers. I could go in there and talk to people and not get the urge to smoke. Best move I ever did. The physical results were far better than I thought possible. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my grandchildren. The extra money isn't bad either.
Back to ranting.... people who can't drive when it snows. 20 MPH on a county highway?? Go back home before you kill someone!
It sure did snow here yesterday. Got about 7" but then it got very cold and windy as hell. I'm about to go out and do some plowing when the wind dies down a bit more.
The deepest spot where the snow drifted is less than 5". The driveway had 1.5". We did get a spot of rain before the snow started. My yard is a mess. The locust trees lost a lot of branch ends.
Not quite the same category as smoking/chewing but haven't had a pop in a touch over a month now. I typically only drank 1 can a day but decided F it, why? Cold turkey and haven't looked back. Feel a whole lot better!
Rained here in SW MN for about 2 hours before it snowed. We were forecast to get a dusting to maybe 1" and ended up with that rain and 5" of snow.
I did not get a flake of snow at home yesterday, about half way to work I hit the snow and the traffic. Now it will be 4-5 days below zero, such a treat.
That is exactly what I liked about living in Saratoga. Work would shut down or run on a skeleton crew and I would head out to the Adirondacks to go hike for the day. The locals thought I nucking futs and they weren't too far off but for a flatlander it was an awesome experience.
rant and question. The company I work for sent out a letter that stated "to remain employed here, you must get the covid vaccine" my question, Is that even legal?
Not until Biden signs an XO making it so. Welcome to the new America. I work in a hospital and it is not mandatory for us, just highly encouraged if you work in direct patient care.
