The new way to increase gas mileage is to have an auto shut off if you idle for anything more than a few seconds. We pulled up to a red light and my sil hit the brake and the damn engine shut off. Radio stayed on and everything stayed on except the motor was not running. The light changed he took his foot off the brake and the engine started to run again. There is a short term bypass and a perm one but you have to pull the dash apart and do some tech work on the modules. I guess all the new eco boost motors have it. The gooberment has pushed the mileage numbers so hard that all the truck mfg have started to do stuff like this to bring their fleet into the fuel savings line. The new chevy my buddy got has an 8 cylinder that drops down to 4 when it doesn't need the extra power. I'll buy another Ford when I get ready to trade but will go with the 5.0 liter v8 again since it doesn't have that crap.

This our ford. Fred the f250. Fred is powered by Triton v10 and laughs whenever anyone puts 'fuel' and 'economy' together.

Fred is the only Ford I've owned that I would trust to go on a long trip. It's a bummer it's a one-wheel drive. :(

    I still wouldn't buy a new one. ;)[IMG][IMG]

Yes, but Ted the chebby is pretty sexy too.

Poor Ted has had a rough time since I got it. A big ditch snuck up on me and the front bumper got mangled when I dropped into it. The Hubs drove Ted off a concrete wall and sheared off the steps. (It's not even a cool story... lol)

I did have to replace Ted's power steering pump. If you ever want a good workout, try steering that truck down the twisty mountain trails with zero power assist.

My husband kept telling me the steering wasn't that bad... until he had to drive it to work a few times. How's that for a rant??[IMG][IMG]

Both good looking 3/4 ton trucks Christine. Those Tritons were real gas guzzlers. I don't tow a big camper trailer so don't need the extra power and my 1/2 ton trucks work OK here in the lowlands of Vt. Beautiful country out there.

Ted is actually a 1/2 ton. I've heard people call it a 'heavy' half ton. Which must mean it's a half ton that burns more gas than usual. It has the 5.7L in it. :D

It's geared poorly for towing. It may get a different rear end in the future.

I thought that was only on the 2.7L ecoboost?

*edit* looks like it is on the 17+ 3.5's now. You could always purchase a tuner for a few hundred and shut it off.

I will be trading soon and was interested in an eco boost until I heard auto stop is on all of them. The eco boost is their big move to comply with newer gas mileage standards. There is a bypass but it requires pulling the dash to get at the modules. I guess when asked the dealership said they couldn't perform that bypass. The eco boosts are real barn burners for power and torque. Nice I guess if you need a tow vehicle strange as that is seeing they are 6 cylinders. I get decent mileage on my 2014 5.0 liter v8 so I'll just get another. The eco boosts get a couple of miles per gallon better but at to me it isn't worth it since they also charge more for them. Kind of an offset one vs the other.

I tow a camper this is why I was drawn to the ecoboost. I also have a diablo sport intune tuner, makes this thing silly quick for a 4x4 truck.

My dad had an old chevy they called a heavy 1/2 or 5/8 ton. It was a 1/2 ton truck with 3/4 ton springs. It sucked gas mainly because he pulled the 305 and put a 350 from a chevelle in it.

I've eaten a lot of ramen but no goat. I did own two goats. They were the most obnoxious creatures ever.

Here they are tempting me to end them.

I ended up selling them instead. I'd rather have the cash than goat meat.[IMG]

My great uncle would read the local paper every eve and eat popcorn. He said he always went to sleep with an empty stomach and empty head..
