The attitudes of middle school girls. Three days into trying to struggle my way through being a makeshift PE teacher. Holy Crap! I am glad I have all boys. One of my sons treats his classmates or teachers like that and I will come down to school and belt his ass in front of everyone.

The medical field and the appointment process. I have been having an ongoing issue with my right eye, lose vision and then it comes back slowly. Last November and December did a bunch of tests like scanning my arteries in my neck, head scan, blood tests, went to an optometrist for a thorough exam. No answers but I felt we eliminated anything that was going to make me drop dead suddenly, plus I was sick of going to drs. Well the eye issue is happening more often and my wife feels I should get to the bottom of it before we buy the new house. I went online to get an appointment, I had to explain why I need an apointment, the individual asked me if my left eye was still an issue, no never have had a problem with the left eye only the right. Then was asked if I went to an optometrist, no ****? I went to an optometrist and the results are in my file. I went on to say I want a referral to somebody at the next level up, I am not coming to see the Dr who pretty much said I have no idea what is causing it so he can set up an appointment at the next level where hopefully I am working with the A-squad not the jr varsity care I am getting at their facility.

Yep... that's pretty much the attitude of about 90% of my production floor.

All beaches closed. Hiking trails closed. ATV trails closed. Restaraunts not allowed to open. Hotels and Motels not allowed to open. My office, City Hall, been closed five weeks with no end in site. No car registrations, building permits etc. The road crew isn't even working. Do these numbers really justify that?

Rhetorical. No, they dont. Screenshot_20200424-160852_Samsung Internet.jpg

The parking lot at our hospital is empty. Most of the workers have been sent home. They are losing millions of dollars. With all the elective surgeries put on hold there is nothing for them to do. In the entire state we have 39 people in a hospital with the virus. This is insane.

I went to my local hospital to pay my bill and was told that the hospital was not taking payments in person. I pointed to the desk that was 25 feet away and said it's right there? The lady told me that it was a new policy designed to protect me as well as the hospital staff. When I told her that if I could not pay my bill right here and now that I would not pay it at all, things changed. She gave me a mask and some hand sanitizer and allowed me to walk over and pay my bill.

I didn't think a hospital would let their money walk away.

You'd be surprised. When I was younger my grandma was the accountant for another local hospital in the collection dept. She's said several times you wouldn't believe how much was sitting out there in unpaid bills. Said they'd send stuff out for monthly payments and as long as they got something back they just let it keep sliding. After that job she worked at one of the big health insurance companies here in IL doin same thing, blue cross blue shield if curious, she said it was same thing there. And didn't matter what kind of person it was, rich or poor didn't matter. So at that time at least hospital were sittting there with alot of money out there uncollected.

I believe it - When I got my laser eyes done (elective so no insurance) they gave me like 45% off because I paid in full before each of the surgeries. It’s a safe bet that they didn’t do that out of the good of their heart either. I assume that they expect that somewhere around 30-40% of their bills will never get paid and 5-15% or so will be spent on collections. Saved me about $2k per eye though. Or really a more accurate take would be that I paid full price and I avoided the 45% financing fee.

    @GregH @jrk_indle84

check out direct-pay doctors (no Medicaid/insurance accepted.)
Their pricing is something like 200% lower than typical insurance because they don't have to deal with coding, etc and they can easily make more money than doctors who do.

Granted that doesn't apply to hospitals but there are models that do and they work well for people. Just gets rid of all the built-in bloat of insurance companies and the non-payers.

Yea I always just pay out of pocket. Never really have anything major so usually just couple hundred bucks. But its always funny looking at the bill and seeing how much is knocked off for direct payment.

I should clarify. I went there with cash as I was in town doing banking and other errands. I thought it would be easy to just drop by and pay.

Gas station bathrooms are out of control right now!
I stopped at one yesterday, no tp, toilet isn’t working and it’s full of crap. I let the guy behind the counter know and he just shrugs.

Today one of the guys in our crew goes to the bathroom at another gas station. Says there is no TP again, and someone literally took a dump on the floor in the middle of the room! There were like three turds in a trail right to the door!

What the heck people!!! I had to double check that I wasn’t in some third world country like Venezuela or Seattle.
Needless to say, he was more than happy to wait until we got to our Porta-Jon on site.

I pay my doctor $90 a month and it gets me two visits per month. I have to pay directly for lab work but the follow up visit is not considered one of my two allotted visits. Lab work for a blood test last visit ran me $105. I now only carry a medical policy that I was able to taylor to my needs and bring into a reasonable price.

So tis the season... We have a brooder of chicks. Which isn't bad but then the family decided this morning that we want goats. I protested loudly, vigorously, and with the utmost confidence that my level headed logic would prevail.

One of my friends on Facebook shared this. IMG_0957.JPG

Save laurel the porcupine! A porcupine that was found shot in the leg by a pellet gun. No way I am donating money for somebody to wrap a bandaid around some rodents’ foot!

The money would probably be better spent on target practice for the guy that missed!
