My house is at the top of a T intersection- the a**hole city plow drivers always plow it straight into my driveway. I get double (or more) what my neighbors get at the end of their driveways. I have learned to wait until the plows clear the majority from the roads, then I snowblow it all into the street, then the secondary plowtruck passes usually clear most of it away without getting too much left at the end of the drive.
Anybody know anything about skunks? Last night was the 3rd time in a week that one of those stinky bastards has set up camp in my yard. Normally I’ll have one or 2 per year but this was the 10th one in February alone.
I know they will eat any cat/dog food you leave out at night. My parents in Western NC had some outdoor cats they fed on the front porch. Pops, who has bad eyesight, stepped out on the porch one night thinking it was one of the black cats and it just looked at him. He realized what it was and quickly and quietly stepped back in the house. He said he couldn't believe it didn't spook and spray him. I got a good laugh when he told me what happened. They don't leave the food out at night anymore.
I reckon we >only< have another 20-30% more to go. Back swan event may be the start of the next recession... Inverted yield curve puts that recession around 2h2020...my back of the envelope has recession 2h20-2h21.
I killed 9 in one season. All were small. I discovered that it's the juveniles that always smell. If it's just walking around and smells, its young. The adults can control that until they spray.
I don’t feed stray cats and the dog eats inside so that’s not what’s bringing them in. .22LR is my current solution but it’s kind of a PITA because you still gotta deal with the dead bodies. Leaving them in the yard to rot and stink kind of defeats the purpose. Even disposing of them elsewhere isn’t that great because they start leaking stink juice in the yard as soon as they die so the smell still lingers a few days after the skank is gone. Not sure if traps are an option - I would be worried about getting the neighbors cats with a conibear and I am definitely not trying to mess with a pissed off live skunk so that pretty much rules out a leg hold or cage trap too. Good to know - I am guessing I’ve got juveniles since they all stunk to high heaven and were what I assume would be considered fairly small to average size (I haven’t really been up close and personal with a lot of skunks in the past so I don’t really know how big a large skunk is). I’d say about 1/2 a raccoon in size. You think tracking down and eliminating momma and papa skunk would cause the kids move elsewhere?
Treat your lawn for grub worms, that may be what Pepe is after. At least that was my experience out on the farm. Edit* If you have had a lot of rain lately it will push the grubs closer to the surface and Pepe knows this.
That is true. We used to appreciate having them around bc they will also dig up and destroy in-ground yellow jacket nests in late summer for the larvae. That is also the time those detestable winged stingers get extra testy, so I respected ole Pepe even more.
I got my **** kicked in back in 07...learned my lesson. Yesterday I moved everything into treasury bonds. Protect what I have; but still buying stocks. It should blow over in a couple weeks then I'll move everything back.
I'll take the under, but will cede some of the best days have followed vicious drops. Some house calls should start soon if there haven't already. A few 1000s more and its all out on margin calls. Some fun stories about customer issues (trying to bail) at some broker dealers already hitting the news.
Probably your best bet is to remove the food source. For me it was grubs in the lawn. I didn't have what I needed to kill the grubs, but I did have .410 ammo.
The 410 is probably the best round to have around from skull shooting possums to the judge in the night stand.
I still will never come home late from a flight and not tell the wife I am coming home, she shoots and asks questions later.
