Two local Democrat Sheriff candidates want to eliminate the federal 287G program where local law enforcement cooperates with ICE to investigate illegal immigrants held in custody. Thank goodness we have a strong Republican Sheriff who happens to be black, that supports and enforces the program. If not for his race, cries of racism would be heard because we are simply trying to protect our borders.

best 2 vehicles I owned were a 97 Sport 2dr and then an 01 Jeep Cherokee (classic boxy styles.) That 4.0 is a beast. The 97 was a behind the barn find with 87k on it; I took it home and pulled the plug and the oil came out looking like muddy kitty litter. My old man told me he didn't think the oil had ever been changed and I got ripped off. Ran ATF through the engine for a few hundred miles; drained it and put synthetic Mobile in it and drove that sucker for over 80k; then sold it to my little sister who put another 30-40 on it before she wrecked it. Never had to do a thing to it other than a new water pump and 2 clutch cylinders (5 speed manual.)

The 01 was just as reliable only had to rebuild the tranny after I towed too much weight for too many miles when I moved from GA to IL. I wish I had never sold that.

Back to the trucks though; the used truck market is crazy high right now.

I just sold my 15 F150 SuperCab with 43k miles direct to a local dealer. He paid me just about $3k under my original purchase price when new. He currently has it listed for just under what I paid new (albeit with the add ons of a $2000 cap; and about $2000 in wheels, tires, and a lift.) He's basically trying to sell a 4 year old truck with 43k miles at appx. $4000 depreciation from new off the lot.

So the truck actually cost me about $7k to lease for 4 years, 43k miles. So roughly $145/mo. Not too shabby.

Bought a 13 Expedition cash. First time no car payment in over a decade and it feels great. So that's the happy ending to my rambling Friday rant.

The local truck market is ridiculous. Trucks with rwd V6s going for 30k with 60k miles on them. Not doing it.

I'll take back my older smaller truck which hasnt given much of a problem at all. I did a good job on the upkeep except changing my transmission fluid regularly, especially when I was laying down bigtime miles on it this spring. And it cost me.

Consider yourself quoted. If there is one upside to all the rain, it is that the temperatures are below normal. Not worth the price of all the damage caused by the flooding though.

The vast majority of people financing cars has made the price of new cars ridiculous. People who want a deal should be asking, "how much on cash price," not, "how much down and how much per month?"

dealerships don't make a ton on the sale of new. It's the financing.
Used is where they make a killing.

They make the most money financing rather than cash sales new or used.

I will add one other upside, maybe a reverse rant. We picked the right weekend to hike in the mountains of NC (last weekend)... They're expecting about a foot of rain this Thurs-Sun...

Damn deer. There is a doe here with a fawn who is not afraid of people, when I go up to feed she doesn't really move away probably stays within 25 yards. I see her around the barn she sits and watches me, it is kinda cool but then like a deer she goes to far. She is now emptying the grape jelly from the bird feeders and eating the hostas, right by the house.

Milorganite fertilizer helps keep deer away and us a low nitrogen and iron benefit to you lawn.

Now why is it you never hear a thing on the impact of these horribly persistent floods on the areas wild life? Yes terrible for people but we can get a heads up and leave, animals not. So how much have we all lost in terms of wild life.

Just to think that a nice set up for a brand new 4X4 top of the line is about $80,000 is cringeworthy.

The condo I’m living in I paid $37,500 back in 1997. That’s a decent down payment on a new truck today.

    No thanks.

Not for nothing but I’m driving a 2005 Tahoe Z71. Last of the good ones. Bought it with 26k on it about 6 years ago and she has 136k on it now.

Ugh, didn't know trailer plate prices were increased with the new "budget" as well.

Go from $18 a year to $118. $100 increase for what is mostly a seasonal plate.

Speaking of licence plate tags, WHY??
