If you just use a good no-load mutual fund and not worry about the ups and downs you should be fine. Historically, you will make well over the 5%. Just set it up to auto draft from your checking or savings on a monthly basis so you dollar-cost average, or do payroll deduct and don't look back. I started funds for my kids in 2009 and just pulled them up to look. They have averaged 14.47% over that 10 years. The best year was over 22% and there were a couple of years that they went down. But, long term is the goal. You have to stomach the downs with the ups. Historically, the market has done around 10%.

Sure am glad I ain't running for public office. Never raped or even had to " cohearse" a gal but there have been plenty in my past. Always could be that one physco beach that could dredge up a story.
Oh I wish I could relive 1984 to 1989 those were golden years. Had I known how my life would be in 2019 I may have been more decadent in the mid 80's. Not sure how that would be possible while avoiding legal charges but worth a shot.

I moved most of my money to a Credit Union last year. My checking account earns 2.5% up to $25k balance. The balance above $25k only earns .75% but still not bad for a liquid account.
