We are talking about today, people today who need to buy food, pay their mortgage. If your case I would have stuck up for you too, I was not telling you STFU, just anybody who thinks this is the way it should be done, on either side.
I now have three large roofing contracts on hold thanks to the shut down. They are big TPO flat roof jobs for government facilities. We are not scheduled to start until May but it is sort of a domino effect with work that should be getting done now in order for me to start in May. Personally, I am not a fan of Trump. I think he is a blow hard and has little to no idea what he is doing or how his actions impact others. He is a poor businessman and if I had made the same mistakes I would be in the poor house bc I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Furthermore, he is a bold faced stone cold liar and a man poor in character. I find it mindblowing how a womanizing porn star humping charlatan snake oil swindler could be our President. And no, I was not a Hillary supporter.
I was pointing out that yes I did work during a Govt shut down, granted it was not today but yes I can relate to being told that I had to show up for work and punch in for hours not knowing when I would get paid. Hell western fire details the USDA took up to 5 weeks to pay me for working a forest fire. I do find it interesting the the federal employee union has nothing to say one would think they would have a relief fund.

Some nut case shot an army vet with his kids last night by my house. Right at primetime at a convenience store...he was not allowed to have a gun due to a mental health commitment....yeah that worked well. This world can be cruel as hell. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
the people who work the border are begging for the wall. They appreciate and support the President's stand. They are willing to work without pay (knowing it will be backpaid) to get the wall. Even the Border Patrol Union supports this- temporary sacrifice is worth it for the long term safety of the nation and BP officers. That alone should be enough for any reasonable person to see that the POTUS' stance is the correct one. The people who put their lives on the line to protect the Border are begging for The Wall. Give it to them - no matter the cost. Over 1300 BP agents were assaulted from 2017-18. That's nearly 2 assaults per day. Trump has already compromised- from the initial asking price of the total $25 bil to a $5.7 down payment. How much more should he give up? Spare us all the snide "but wasn't Mexico supposed to pay for it." We've been over this 100x on this forum. Nobody ever said Mexico was going to write us a check. DJT does not have the power to levy taxes. Congress does. All Congress has to do is levy a 2-3% federal tax on all individual money remittances from inside the US to a foreign recipient. It would pay for all $25 billion in less than 10 years. That is exactly $0 out of taxpayers' pockets. I agree 100000% that we are where we are due to Republicans' lack of foresight and or being more loyal to The Swamp than their constituencies. Neither House nor Senate leadership wanted The Wall; so they did nothing WHEN IT MATTERED - which is why they lost the House by a landslide. DJT begged for the House to pass his budget with Wall funding; they would not until -after- they lost the mid-terms. Once they did pass it in a show vote; DJT begged for the Senate to pull the "Nuclear Option;" McConnell would not. House leadership knew that; which is why they allowed the vote in the House- knowing it would go nowhere. Do not blame Trump for trying to keep his promise. This is literally the only arrow in his quiver. All you Trump haters call him out for being a liar, and when he tries to keep his main campaign promise he's a <insert pejorative> Both McConnell and Ryan are complete and abject slime. GOP controlled all 3 branches of government and did nothing with it. Trump can't propose law; he can only sign it into effect. GOP did nothing to pass budget bills that would further his National populist agenda. As Trump would say - #Sad!
It’s always great to see an eloquently written flawless response to someones usual broken-record of verbal diarrhea, the historically proven lack of ever being able to present a cogent response also never gets old. Again, not naming anyone in particular...
to Germ's credit; I know he has claimed to be a proponent of the wall. I believe him- but wish he and some others saw the bigger picture that the POTUS can only do so much. $5.7 billion is nothing. If it comes in the form of an IOU from Mexico so be it. If you watched the "rebuttal" yesterday; there was one overarching theme- Dems care more about people on the other side of the border (or rather what votes they will eventually get from them) than they do people on this side of the border.
Also, before the lemming accusation starts getting thrown around- Trump effed up royally by capitulating on the last budget. He got snookered by Ryan and McConnell. Flat out. he did warn everyone- "never again" would he sign another budget without wall funding- so he's keeping that promise. Trump has screwed up bad on this 'pull out- wait, don't pull out' bit in Syria (amazing he doesn't have 37 out of wedlock kids with that attitude) Trump messed up really really bad on the bump stock ban- completely unconstitutional... not so much as from a 2A perspective; but as violations of 4th and 5th Amendment Due Process clause(s). To be clear, I believe bump stocks are retarded. However, the Executive branch cannot arbitrarily issue an administrative order retro-actively declaring them illegal to posses; and then not give compensation to those who turn them in. Completely unconstitutional. Should Congress pass a law restricting possession of them and POTUS then sign that bill into law; that's another story. I hated Obama's ExOs, and I hate this one as well. To illustrate how scary unlawful this is; here is a not-so-hypothetical example: bat-crap crazy Bernie gets elected. He truly believes climate change is the single greatest threat to public safety on the earth (he says so publicly all the time.) So, in the interest of public health and safety (Think of the Children!), he issues an Executive Order via the DOT that all internal combustion- powered vehicles are hereby illegal to own and possess. All must be turned over to the Government; and no you will not be compensated for their value. That is in essence exactly what DJT did with the bump stock ban- and it's disgustingly unconstitutional. I hope and pray someone has already filed a lawsuit against the order. I don't have a bump stock so I have no standing; otherwise I would.
update- quick GoDuckGo search reveals 4 such lawsuits already in the pipe... https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2...mp-bump-stock-ban-seeks-to-open-atf-registry/
"The NRA is still nowhere to be found in this fight. The only thing they’ve done is release a statement saying that they’re now somewhat, maybe, possibly against the ban after they were originally for it… twice." I like this part the best, and really makes me wonder why anyone would give that organization money. Oh that's right so they can tell us to burn our Yeti coolers cause they're no longer getting catered too. On topic tho would have much rather seen something like this happen instead or complete ban. I'm with you that they're stupid but it shoulda just been moved to requiring a tax stamp like suppressors and other full auto weapons. It's already illegal to try and make a full auto firearm so idk why ppl thought this would never draw attention. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
well, per the article (or maybe another one I read) the ATF had already issued no less than 3 rulings that they were -not- illegal modifications. So you can see why that is one of the major points in at least one of the lawsuits. As to the NRA; well I originally made the same point; then deleted it- after reading the comments I did see a point made that it is very early in the stage. You never know what goes on behind the scenes and it's possible an agreement was made to let other 2A groups that aren't under so much heat take the lead on this one. They can always file an amicus brief later. I'm going to hold off judgement on the NRAs lack of action for now. As with most things, there is more than one way to look at this particular issue. You could be for restrictions and permitting but against confiscation. You could be for duly-enacted laws which restrict the item but against executive orders which accomplish the same thing. We have a system of laws are are supposed to preclude actions where the ends justify the means. What does not hold water is that the G can issue an ExO banning them and then not compensate owners upon confiscation. That is a textbook definition of due process violation.
If this keeps up for another 2 weeks and creditors come a calling, will see how much support this shutdown still has. Dnoodles you have talked to every agency employees who are not getting paid? If this goes through January and these people are not getting paid, shame on us. Dnoodles are you willing to give up pay until the wall is built? Put your money with your mouth is then. Those who want the wall go tell your employer you want them to hold your current pay until this is resolved and then take the back pay. Because what we have here are three people who don't belong in government and won't give an inch. Truth bomb, lol Dnoodles and I agree Trump should have handled this two years ago, what we don't agree on is Trump's boneheaded comment that Mexico will pay for it. This is on Trump and no one else. So who's in? Who is going to put their money where their mouth's are?
The above is a Truth Bomb, I doubt anyone will fire back at Okiebob, I really don't have fight in this, hell I could retire today. I am not losing any money. This should be solved without the shut down, it's sad we can't get this done. People who don't make that much money and some who protect us are being used as pawns by congress and the President.
Trump's problem with the wall is he doesn't know how to sell it. Going on national tv and trying to scare the public into thinking we need a wall isn't the way to do it. The $5.7 billion isn't for a down payment. From everything I've read and listened to 5.7 billion is for roughly 200 miles of select and specific areas where a border wall (fence) would actually make sense. If he would just say that instead of acting like he's going to build a wall along the entire border he might get some support. After ( if ) Trump gets his $5.7 billion I think he will be done with it and move on. In his mind that is a victory and he can spend his re-election campaign telling people he built a border wall.
Noodles I totally agree with you about McConnell and Ryan by the way. I've never seen someone so good and not getting anything done than McConnell. And I've never seen such a spineless coward like Ryan. Maybe Ted Cruze. It makes me happy to think about just how much Ryan despised and hated Trump, but still had to come to work everyday and let Trump have his way with him.
Chuck and Nancy care more about those coming here while ignoring our countries laws about entry more than they do about citizens and federal employees. How about Nancy pass the bill and read the actual bill later, like she suggested about the Obama care bill.
Let me add Trump has done a fantastic job enforcing immigration laws, he's IS the main reason why numbers are so historically low of people coming across the border. All he did was enforce the laws on the books. Trump IMO does not get enough credit for this.
