They do not salt the road between my house and town, they don't plow much better either. We are supposed to get 6-9" tonight and then high winds.
I lived in Louisville, KY for three years. The local coal fired power plant had tons of ashes that were used to cover the streets. Then lived in the boonies for six years. County highway department wouldn't wait when snow fell. If on a weekend, they didn't get out until Monday AM. By then the snow was packed and slick as snot on a doorknob. Only road that got immediate action was US 50. Sota, born and raised in Ohio. The state highway people were on call 24/7 from October 1st to April 1st for snow removal. In those days, stores closed at 6 PM. I remember going down High Street (US 23) and seeing salt/snowplows at major intersections waiting for snow. When it got about 1/4 inch, then they went into action.
we got 6-7"of the white crap I did not even attempt to go in to work. Fairly certain I disappointed my grandfather I only did a single pass with the snow blower and my sidewalks are not down to cement. In my defense it is still snowing.
I am so done snows every day, todays drive featured freezing fog oh and my truck is so snow packed underneath truck shutters and shimmies at 70 mph. Lucky with catch a break with the snow but the high on Saturday below zero same for Sunday just a quick 50 hours below zero, I just hope we get some wind with it predicted -25 with windchill.
Sota, January 1982, Cincinnati, OH, Sunday the Bengals were in a playoff game. 41 below with wind chill at 61 below. Stadium had city buses around the stadium; go out get warm and go back in to the game. We watched in on TV with a nice glowing fireplace.
Just a thought with that shimmy at 70mph. Check your front rims inside and out, snow gets packed in and is all light and fluffy so no big deal. Once parked the engine puts off enough heat to melt the snow which puddles up in the bottom of the rim. A lot if rims anymore like to have a bead lock look or just a lip in general that can hold the water. It refreezes and you pretty much get a frozen weight that throws your wheels balance off until it melts again. I get that problem sometimes with my aftermarket rims.
We lost our BIG LOTS and got a Job lots in it's place. Messier but a few good prices on odd items. But it has a warehouse feel of odd things even " fresh" breads. I Seriously, I do not get that. They do sell a ton of imported foods from Ireland, Finland, Italy, Germany . Those items I will try, for labels show ingredients to be actual....food. Unlike American products with a long list of things only a chemist understands We also have a Save alot...pretty much mexican based foods.
Had a road rage today on the way home, a semi truck livestock hauler going west on 94 empty. The guy was going 72 in the left lane, I poke out to check the right lane and it is wide open, I did not rush I always give it 20-30 seconds before I check. I moved over and hit resume cruise set at 79 and drove by the semi. Now where there is egregious ignorance and a lack of professionalism I am giving you the finger on the way by. No horn honk just a finger. Well evidently the dumb SOB was offended and he was going to show me by getting right on my bumper I sped up he sped up. I thought about it as we were going down the freeway at 85, I rolled down my window and held my cell phone out the window. Evidently he understood he is and idiot and being stupid and quit. Private livestock and grain haulers this time of year drive like ignorant amateurs.
Stinking hawks. Let the chickens out of their neq home in fenced area. I did not park Gator as a gaurd due to allthe other interior fencing. They got my best o.der rooster.
Our Big Lots reopened. Big disappointment! They cut out 80% of groceries which we liked. Replaced it with clothing. Went back twice- first and last time.
Hubby had a roll of wide caution tape. I strung it from one tall pole to another in big X's across their different sections. Bright yellow with blk. lettering high winds and it is moving and flashing color. I know hawks will not fly into that. It might even deter any climbing preditors and rodents. Even at night I can't imagine a rodent feeling to secure with something moving over their heads.
I used orchard netting over the coups it worked well keeping raptors out, the only thing it didn't stop were owls.
The owls would crash thru the net and kill pheasants and only eat the brain then kill another. I brought 1 to the raptor center for rescue, the 2 after that did not survive their injuries crashing thru the net.
Raising chickens is tough if they are outside a protected run. Battled owl, fox, feral cats, martins, weasels, goshawks etc. I killed them all except the goshawks because they are super cool and just look evil.
