Sota, went for an oil change; the guy rubbed his fingers up and down the wiper blade. Cracked? Couldn't be as I changed then two weeks ago. You should have seen the look on his face. Me? I just look dumb. I change my own air filter and cabin filter; the latter a waste of time and money unless you live in the desert SW.
I can't stand the Jiffy Lube upselling so much that I just change my own oil to avoid them. They'd be done in half the time if they didn't come in 7 times to try to get you to replace something else while there.
I'm too old to change my own. Can't bend over or lay down for any length of time. One place has the pit where you drive over it and they change oil. Prefer to watch from the lobby to keep them honest.
I only let my mechanic who i grew up with do mine. Sure he cost more, but I can trust him and its worth every penny for the peace of mind!
Another experience: had a Plymouth van (remember those?) that developed a squeal that sounded like it was coming from the A/C compressor. Took it to a local shop who said it would be about $600. Took it to a place that a friend used for repairs. The kid working there listened and suggested we wait for the owner. Owner came in, listened and tightened the belt. No charge.
State of Minnesota with a family leave package. I pay .44% increase in taxes, business .44% pays an additional. I have private disability insurance this program does nothing but cost me more in taxes, it is for people who are not smart enough to purchase disability insurance.
Went out for breakfast Sunday morning after that we were going grocery shopping. She brought me to Aldi, I had never been to Aldi before. Aldi would be my version of a grocery store in hell would be like, I am very brand loyal when it comes to certain things.
1) most of Aldi’s products are name brands, they are just private labeled (I worked at for a couple big companies that worked with Aldi in my consulting days) and or slightly different recipes from the name brand’s. 2) most Aldi’s have fewer skus which is both a good and bad thing for both the company and consumer-once you know what you’re looking for, either they have it or not. 3) worse than Aldi are Lidl and Trader Joe’s- both change up their inventory. This is infuriating once you find a particular product you like. 4) Lidl also has a seasonal section that is like a potluck from hell! Who is buying a floor jack, a toaster or bathing suit at a grocery store, ever!
Groceries are a very low mark-up, only 1 or 2%. Make it up in volume. However, there is more profit in a bag of dog food, hairspray, light bulbs, etc than a buggy full of groceries. Same with a C-store- tank full of gas only makes a few cents. More profit in a 12 pack of beer or carton of cigarettes. As for SKUs, look at the selection of nothing more than prepared spaghetti sauce. Why does the store offer 18 different brands including the house brand which is made by one of the other brands?
Winter storm warning starting tomorrow afternoon. Nope not partaking in that I am leaving work at noon tomorrow not going in Wednesday either. I am not driving in wet slushy snow with 2 plus hour commutes.
Christmas tree prices are ridiculous, $150 for a 6-7 ft Douglas Fir. That is double what I paid last year.
When me moved in the first Christmas my son in law and wife wanted a 20' tree, I shot that down and compromised on 2 artificial 1 upstairs 1 in the corner down stairs. I don't care I do not set them up and I do not take them down.
Crazy what a balsam tree goes for, I have cut down millions of $ worth of balsam trees. On prescribed burns they were great for getting a flame from going. Cut them down 3 weeks before the burn.
I found some reasonably priced trees at Hoem Depot, but they weren’t advertising it online. Only paid $60 For a Douglas Fir.
I like Aldi because their cashiers actually work at getting you out the door. They are fast, polite, and don’t tell you stories while ringing you up. Easy in and easy out!
