I am a traditional guy, Thanksgiving is a turkey holiday, I was all set to ban ham from my thanksgiving table then my wife pulls the oldest grandson loves ham BS on me. There will be a holiday ham on my table the rest of my life damn it.
People who do not "call before you dig". Apparently a farmer was digging in one of his fields with zero knowledge that a 4' natural gas main ran through there, one of the main supply lines for the utility that services our entire region. Well over a dozen towns are now without natural gas, around 40k people. I have a gas furnace, gas water heater, and gas dryer. Thank goodness I have a wood stove, it's going to be cranking for the next few days. They think they'll have it repaired by tomorrow, but for liability reasons the utility will come out to every single home with natural gas to ensure all utilities are properly restarted. All that would need restarted at my house is the water heater, takes about 20 seconds to get the pilot light going again.
It has been around mid 50's during the day and getting down into low 30's at night. Our fireplace does a good job and we'll be fine, have to wonder about elderly or others that don't have wood heat. There was a big run on electric heaters here yesterday. I was at North40 using their indoor range, when I went to check out I saw two guys with two carts heaped up with electric heaters. I hadn't heard about the gas problem yet, so thought it was weird. Then heard them talking about selling them for a big profit... It was like the TP run during covid. The outage was announced around 4 pm, I heard by 7 pm most everywhere was sold out on electric heaters. Walmart, North40, Costco, etc.
Went out for lunch with my Dad today, I ordered off the seniors menu. Damn I am getting old. In my defense I just wanted a cup of soup and grilled cheese not some huge burger or sandwich. I don't eat big meals anymore.
I learned my lesson when we lost power for two days in the summer with no ac, whole home generator doesn't get used since I bought it but next time I am ready.
Watching you Tube videos of Y oungsters " hunting". I do NOT like to see a kid shooting out of a blind with earmuffs on. I do NOT like to see a kid snacking on food and staring at his/ her phone while Dad says, there's a big buck". I do NOT like to see the dad doing everything from opening the window, adjusting the shooting sticks, narrating the shot from the first second after its fired till the recovery. I do NOT like when a kid has no time to talk about the " hunt" without dad blurting in. I do NOT like it when dad says " you've hunted hard and i'm so " proud of you" FricknA, people..., get your kids in the woods and let them enjoy a little bit of pain, joy, peace n quite. Epic rant...yep.
Get home and check the mail tonight, have a set of license plates in the box. Still have plates on my truck, never requested any but has the right number and expiration date. One thing I do notice is the IlliNOis on top of the plate. Notice how the Ill--IS is uniform in size but the NO is almost emphasized, the N is oversized and the O is elongated side to side. Why is NO so stand-outish? Then look at the N and O at the bottom Land Of Lincoln. I won't be putting them on, my plates are perfectly fine. Seems a bit tin foil hat, but this is the most corrupt state in the country.....
Doesnt surprise me one bit. I love this state but loathe the entity that runs it and ultimately has destroyed it. This is my home but holy crap how they have ruined this state. When my kids are out of school im gone. I work at a company that is spread out pretty good across the country. Im thinking wyoming. Or Iowa. Wife doesnt care where she just wants outta here too. How sad.
She just wants to watch "elf", or watched "elf"... She's quoting Will Farrell's line to the store Santa...
The ultimate thanksgiving must watch is the WKRP Thanksgiving show. The line God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly. Less Nessmans live report of the turkey drop is dang funny.
