I took mom's convertible for one last drive, did a beer run and drove to the point with an open beer listened to Kody Jenks Momma song with the top down and cried.
1 last rant about my Dad we get to the house unload the rig and he says can you move it into the garage, I go in the garage and there sits a 2023 same model, same color. Wrecks a rig and switches out like it is a pair of shoes. Do I get double bonus points if I drove a totaled rig from Iowa to Florida? I did tell him it was a fun trip not as stimulating as when we had a prop shaft leak and 1 transfer case overheating in the dark in the gulf of Mexico.
Squirrels…. I love hunting them and eatin them, but when you’re hunting for deer those furry bastards are the most obnoxious animal there is… even worse than crows and woodpeckers. I had one that decided to come in a few minutes before sunset and sit and chew on a vine 20 yds away from my stand for 45 minutes. I keep a small game point in my quiver for just that type of issue, but it was right at the start of last hour and I didn’t want to risk spooking any deer coming in. After like 15 minutes of listening to that crressshh, crresshh, crresssh sound of him sharpening his choppers on that vine I couldn’t take it anymore so I got up and chucked my binoculars at him (gotta love that vortex warranty). I connected (shockingly.. I can’t throw for ****) on that little furry f**ker and knocked him clean off the vine with a pair of 10X42’s but in the process a doe, which I didn’t even know was there, spotted me and blew the whole damn area out. I should’ve used the arrow….. To add insult to injury, that f**king squirrel sat there and chewed on my bino’s for a bit then he climbed right the f**k back up to the same damn spot and continued chewing away. Our deer season ends on the 2nd so come Wednesday I’m gonna take my suppressed 10/22 and enact some extinction ones those motherf**ckers. If I have my way we are gonna have the only golf course in America without a single squirrel on it.
I have to call a meeting with owners and HR pretty quick. As it stands now I have no choice but to fire an employee, who is also a good friend over the past 15 years. Damn it. He has had so many chances to correct his attendance and it has been a problem for years, but only became my problem Halloween day of this year. I did everything I could as a friend to help him(while in a supervisor capacity), once that was depleted I did what I could as his supervisor to warn him not to test those above me who made the "ultimatum" for him. He has failed. Several times since. I am accepting with the reason for his termination and have no issue with it for it's a 5th or 6th warning. That said, my issue is this. He is on an equal level to me on experience and knowledge for the job, and in some aspects has a bit more than me but his issues have cut him short, an act of his own doing. His work is exemplorary when he is there, no scrap and no crashes. The problem I have is another employee with 14 years less experience has had machine crashes that could kill his self or others and they are for the same reason. Negligence. Plain and simple. He crashed a machine a couple weeks ago that could have junked it for good. Talking a $450,000 dollar machine that parts are no longer readily available for, especially for the damage he caused. I recommended his termination and to this time I have not heard jackshit about it and he is still working. I have such conflicting viewpoints on this situation that I am unsure of where to place my support or demands. This supervisor chit has its conflicts of interest where it should not. Both should be fired without a doubt, but if the latter is no fired as well I have issues with that. I'd rather have a machine not run for a day one month over another that runs every day but kills someone or gets crashed and loses production value for weeks. Deciding the fate and livelihood of others is horrible, even when you know the right decision is being made. If both are terminated I will have some solace to it, if onl one of them is and it's not the correct one in my thinking, I will have a huge issue with it. Do you take the license away from the driver who has 13 speeding tickets a year or from the guy who has 13 crashes a year narrowly escaping bodily injuries but totaling cars for monetary losses?
Thing that sucks about being management, you have zero friends at work, you can be friendly but nobody is your friend. You got hired to supervise, non productive employees reflect on you as a supervisor. As they say that is why you get the big $.
The buck always stops with the supervisor ! If performance is negative it will always fall on you in the end !!! Bite the bullit fire both, Train the next comers the way you want them
Exactly, and I knew this from the get go. First time as a supervisor at current job, but not first time in a management position. I have to be 3 things: Fair Consistent Understanding Follow those 3 and everyone is treated equal. 2 weeks or 20 years I'll be consistent and fair to your situation. Individually, I will take your idividual situation into consideration and decide on that factor alone. That said, it is to be fair across the board. I'd fire my mom if she worked there and met the criteria. Policy is policy. In this case, the oerson if interest has had his due process leading up to termination. I have told him that several times and am completely content if I have to follow through. Even as a machinist I limited my "friendship" with others, I'm there for a job and paycheck not to adopt new family. My issue is with having to fire this guy who misses less than 10% of the scheduled time for work, but then having to assign a guy to another machine who has put another machine(s) into down mode for months by crashing it and tens of thousands in repair/downtime to yet another machine to crash. The friendship isn't the conflict. It's the reasoning why a guy who has nearly 2 decades with company is being terminated for what equates to 15 missed days a year(anywhere from a full day to 5 minutes up to 2 hours late) out of 306 days. Compared to a guy that has been there for less than 3 years and has crashed at least 5 times at thousands a pop, and the last that may have sent a mulyi hundred thousand dollar machine to the graveyard. As far as big money goes, not so. I'd have made more money taking a lesser role that was afforded me. Making more than I was sure, but had I accepted the lesser of 2 roles I was offered I would maks more. 2 bonuses, neither a guaranteed amount, coyld change that a bit.
In my case the buck does not stop with me. Have to go through HR and owners to fire someone. Second guy in scenario I have already asked for termination. Holidays or otherwise I have not heard back either way, whatever
Got a call from our insurance company, they want us to have data logging on the company vehicles. They will crap when they see how much time and distance my truck is at 80 mph.
Luckily I also administrate the company vehicle fleet so I decide the vehicles that will have it installed. I may forget to have mine installed.
Left work at 1:30 got home at 4:15, never hit a ditch or got in an accident. Tomorrow is going to suck too.
Sucks, 94 was pretty much 1 lane I get off the freeway at Albany take state hwy 238 it runs north south with open fields. There were semis in the ditch, car wrecks and cars in the ditch. I drove 30-40 pretty much the whole 83 miles. Get to do it tomorrow again.
Nope no rain all snow, rain in the loop rain tonight, good thing I bail off 94 at Rodgers exit, beyond that the sheet show begins.
Had an employee text me this morning claiming he tried to go to work but turned around because the roads were so bad, pathetic. PTO time used this isn't a school there are no snow days.
