Day 2. Same thoughts. Might have even been more snow than yesterday.

A company owner was asked a question, “How do you motivate your employees to be so punctual?”

He smiled and replied, “It’s simple. I have 30 employees and 29 free parking spaces. One is paid parking.”

We did not miss the freezing rain. The winds are ripping things up and literally tore our Christmas flag off it's pole. Had to re-secure the end of green house and de-ice the " canvas " barn. I took one step off the deck and nearly did back flip. Now the snow is starting.

Wife and I adjusted schedules so that we could both take our youngest for a procedure. I comply and even put on a mask. Only to be told only one parent is allowed in the room. " Is it a small room?" I ask... No it's about keeping everything sanitary. I in no uncertain terms explained to a nurse with no doubt a higher education and tons of experience how whatever germs my child and wife have I have and vise versa. Only to be told again only 1 parent. I F@#$ing hate the health care industry and the BS power we allow them.

Airens Deluxe SHO, has 6 forward speeds, 2 reverse, 14" impeller that will throw wet snow.

I have over 300' of driveway and other areas that get cleared.

If the masks work, then what's the big deal about having 2 parents?

Was just at the hospital last weekend as my FIL passed. At one point there were 12 of us there. Nothing was said about it. just had to mask up when out of the room. Must depend on where you are.

Was a long week working out in heavy, wet snow. I get to work out in it all weekend. Got to blow the yard out with the walk behind snow blower. Then, I get to haul it out to where Arabella is and blow more snow so I can haul her poop out of the barn. The wife keeps asking if she is getting enough to eat. According to the wheel barrel and all my trips to the poop pile, that is a big YES !!

We got blasted with snow the last 4 days. Winter is getting old really fast. Next week it gets really cold. 3 or 4 nights around 20 below. The wind just never quits. 20-30 mph, gusting to 40 plus. We aren't even to January yet !! It is going to be a long winter.

I shoveled the drive again yesterday. So wet and HEAVY! Hubby got home and declared " You have to be the hardest working 65 (APRI 1) woman out there!" That was after seeing everything else I got done. Well that made my aching muscles worth it....then woke up to another 1in. Headed out to clean that before deliveries pack it and causes ice. Thurs and Friday calling for 13".

While I get enough hand shoveling in, most of snow removal is done with a walk behind snowblower. With the surgery coming up in January, the wife thought I should get a new, better snow blower. Today we went and picked it up. It is a Husqvarna 27", two stage snow blower. That baby can move some snow. Only rant about it... the "drive" hand lever is on the right side. The old machine has it on the left side so I am constantly pressing the wrong one out of habit. More annoying than anything. Really impressed with it otherwise.

I took the old blower out and will keep it with Arabella. Now I don't have to haul it back and forth. That will be nice. The old one still runs like a top. I have had it for years.

It is my winter exercise. As I told the farmer next door that pulled up as I was shoveling,(delivering our yearly gift of cheese) this is why I can drag a buck a 1/4 mile up a steep hill then pick him up and fill my trunk with him at nearly 65.
I believe I'm more sore from playing with the grandsons yesterday than shoveling ,lol

BTW. I grew up rather poor. I was going house to house at the age of 8 asking to shovel neighbors drive ways to make money. I did pretty well because I was a little girl wearing socks as mittens. Then it was, I did such a good job they were glad to have me do it. At 9 I had a job babysitting two infants and a toddler from after school to midnight. I did that for two years. Life set me on a course of avoiding easier ways out of jobs. NOT to say that is always a good thing by any means. It's just built into my personality, which drives my family crazy...

Oh I was a strangely mature kid. Boy that drove everyone nuts especially teachers.

Potential historic blizzard possible here end of work week. Just filled 2 5 gallon cans with kerosene. Damn near $50. But with chance of 50-60mph winds and sub zero temps likely need alternative heat source. Also going to see about filling 30lb propane tank at work.

Think there is just over 4" in hourly forecast. Still too early to go with totals. I expect totals to keep going up as we get closer. Energy that's going to create the storm is still up near Alaska.

I wouldn't trust any amounts as of now, way too many keys to fall in place yet. 2 things are certain though, frigid temps and high winds. Even if we only get 3-6" on the lower end of guidance, there's enough impact to warrant Blizzard headlines. I think we get closer to double digit snow totals on the low side as of now.

We weren't poor but also were far from rich. Dad had his city job and raised 70 beef cows. Learned to pitch sh!t and handle small hay bales at a very young age. I was driving tractors by 9. My brother mowed hay and I raked it. When my brother was allowed to work for another farmer, I did both. Dad would come home from work and bale it. We put up an average of 7000 small hay bales a year.

We put up a huge, small bale stack with all those bales. We always had a competition with our cousins to see who could put up the highest stack. We won it every year. I was 16 and my brother Pat was 17 when we started our tallest stack at 23 layers high. We were just shy of 30 feet high. I would throw them as high as I could and Pat would stack them. Once it got too high for me to throw them, we would get the bale elevator out and finish the peak. We were half ways done with the stack when Pat got the job to go work for the farmer.

I looked at dad and said it looks like it is up to us now. He said no, it was up to me to finish it. Told me it would build character in me. Also told me the stack would stay the same height. People always complimented him on how huge and nice it looked from the road. A week later the bale elevator broke with no fix to it. That sucked!!!!! I would go out early in the morning and load the hay rack with 125 bales and unload it. Then I would go back to the hay field and rake what was mowed the day before. I would then mow hay until it got tough. Finish the day loading up another load and unloading it while dad baled.

I finished the stack. Beat our cousins by two layers of bales. After the second year of college, I made sure I got a job that didn't involve hay bales for the summer. Figured dad would not be happy. He wasn't. Felt guilty and called him to see if he needed help on weekends. He said nope. Got me a big baler and dropped down to 50 cows. I was not happy but couldn't blame him. Life would have been so much easier if he had done that my last couple years of high school and first year of college. So much for character!! :busted:

When I was a kid I worked for a cheap azz farmer doing hay. Got paid a penny a bale in the loft stacked, that included riding the wagon stacking bales.
