Ok guys i've always been a die hard one piece quiver fan. However, lately i've found myself thinking more and more about a two piece, no reason other than to try it. I like that the mount is more rigid, thus quieter. However, I can't get over the fact that there is no support for the middle of the arrows. I can just see myself breaking a few of them, when i'm 7 miles from any trail that is the last thing I want. I am also no to fond of pulling an arrow out of a 2-piece, seems awkward. I'm sure it'll get easier. I don't take off my quiver nearly as much as I used too, I try to keep it on now, never know when you'll need a quick second shot. For this reason, I see the extra mounting hardware for a one piece to be dead weight. What are your guys' opinion's? And what would you reccomend for a lightweight and quiet 1 or 2 piece?
I like to climb a tree and take the quiver off. I have a quiver caddy installed on my climbers and a screw in caddy in my fanny pack. Two piece are definitely quieter if you shoot with the quiver on. In all my years and with the dozens of deer I've killed.... very few were with the quiver on. If I were hunting out west humping mountains I might reconsider... or just go with a hip quiver. I have one of those too. Two piece quieter, one piece can be taken off in an instant and stored on a stand, on a tree or whatever. I had 2 piece for years and went to one piece about 25 years ago. Quicker and quieter???? I have the Vortex rotating quiver. Simply twist and the arrow pops out silently everytime. Light weight???? Who knows. I don't worry about a couple ounces when it comes to convenience, quiet, and handiness.
If you do not plan to remove your quiver and hang it from a hook while on stand than IMO a 2 piece is 100% the way to go.
Thats what I was thinking, I've always hung it in the past. I know it's more movement with your quiver on, but how much can you fudge away with?
How do you practice? Do you shoot with it on or off? Hanging it from a hook is a bad idea in my opinion. That's why I have the quiver caddy installed on my climber. It's right there on the wrap around upper bracket of my climber. I have it mounted slightly uphill so it's convenient and less movement to retrieve an arrow. On a hook it flops around, can fall and all sorts of things. I put my quiver on the hand climber section before I start up the tree. In a hang on or ladder stand I use the screw in caddy and again place it where it's quick to get to and it's rock solid for arrow removal. The Kwickee quiver caddy has the same holes as all quiver of course. All you have to do is have an extra bow mount or two to use them with.
I didn't like any of them so I made my own from spare parts. The hood is a Kwik-3, the arrow holder is either PSE or Martin (cant remember) and the pice that brings them together is 1/8" aluminum plate cut and bent to my liking and drilled full of holes to lighten it up. It can be worn as a hip quiver, on the bow, or attahced to the tree or stand with any standard dove tail mount. Not enough arrows for you elk hunters on a pack in, but just right for us deer and bear hunters.
Thanks for the quick reply's guys. I've been really thinking on how many arrows I really need to carry with me. I can save weight by going with a 4 arrow. I normally care six arrows, 5 with BH's and 1 grouse arrow. It's hard to justify 3-4 hunting arrows on a backcountry hunt, but I should only need 1 right:D
I got a 1 piece. It's a cheap one but It works. It's loud when I shoot so I just attach it to my pack for spot and stalk or to a tree when im in a stand.
