It was on Back Order for months .... but she is finally here! y'all that shoot guns REALLY need to shoulder this bad boy
Told ya! I love mine, Tony. Looking forward to shooting it more this spring. Here's what mine likes (as far as I know): Buckhorn 209 - 100gr. Hornady XTP - 240gr. CCI Primer Oh yeah.....you might be interested in this, too. http://www.opticsplanet.net/dnz-dednutz-browning-bar-1in-scope-mount.html
Awesome gun Tony. You will have a great time with it. Lots of fun finding just the right load and fine tuning for accuracy.
Which CVA model is that? I'm kicking around the idea of buying a muzzleloader this year. I haven't done my research (and trust me I will) but what made you buy this particular one?
CVA Accura ...... Research all .... for the money, there was nothing even close IMO ..... hold one, Donny .... that'll sell ya
Jeff, I know you mean Blackhorn ..... how do you like it so far? That's the powder I want to go with...
What is the allure with ML's? I'm not asking in a condescending tone at all. Why would you want to shoot it for fun over a regular firearm? Is it making a recipe and seeing how accurate you can shoot with that said recipe? I always thought the reason to Muzzle loader was to hunt with it in a traditional aspect where you only get one shot with a big ol slug. Which I actually have thought about trying someday. But I never thought of it to be a hobby to shoot for fun. Help me out on this one. What am I missing?
It is DEADLY accurate and it is reloading on the fly I love shooting Flintlocks too ... I just love to shoot my guns ... my bow ... not so much
In all honesty, I have not had good luck with them. Could be the humidity of where I stored them, but I did everything they said to keep them from getting corroded and it never worked for me. I gave 2 of them away to young kids (15-16) to see if they could get them clean enough to shoot worth a damn several years ago. They could be fun if they didn't require SO MUCH cleaning that it became more like a job than a hobby. And I cleaned the hell out of some guns in my day, but those things (at least the ones I had) were more of a pain than they were worth. I killed a couple deer with my BOW during MZL season over the past 5 yrs though.... :D Looks like a nice MZL Tony, enjoy, I hope that stays clean better than the couple CVA's I had. Being stainless should help.
Yeah, T....Blackhorn. Honestly, I don't know what to think, so far. I had the Triple 7 shooting really well out of the Optima. I just switched ot this when I bought the V2, based on the comments from the expert on the CVA site (I bought my gun from the very guy). I've only shot my gun 2X. Forst time, I put 5 shots through it (to get the scope on paper). Last time, I probably sent 20 loads through it. I swab'd it once or twice, during that session.....and it was scary accurate. Carlos (who I bought my gun from) says he shoots 40X without swabbing. We'll see. I'll catch a really nice day here soon and shoot a bunch. I recently bought 3 boxes of bullets/sabots in prep.. Congrats on your new gun.
Thank you ... I am real excited to shoot it... keep me posted as to your conclusions .. I already like that you don't have to swab it much with the BH ...
The one ML I own (haven't used in years), I could not stop from rusting out to save my life. I would like to hear some proven methods of preventing this before I go ahead with a purchase. I guess this Black horn powder is less corrosive?
I just came across this review on Bass Pro's website. What do you guys think about this? Will I really not be able to use this type of powder? I really don't understand why?
Go to the CVA site. Check the blogs. Listen to what Carlos recommends. I'll take his word over (_________), any day. Plus, I now have first-hand exper. with the V2 and Blackhorn.
Yep ... I saw that review ... every other review was 5 star and I know Jeff liked what he saw .... Also, Stainless does not rust (for the most part) Donny, just buy one and join the elite :D
