Yesterday the saga of the piebald buck ended. I have watched him grow up on the family farm for the last three years, and due to his coloration he had become very special to me.

He had a set of spikes as a yearling, and was a 100 inch 8 last year. I had told all the guys that they should give him a pass last year because he needed another year. He ran around in front of several of them last year, and thankfully everyone let him walk.

We had seen him several times this year while bow hunting but always at a distance. On Friday afternoon I hung a new stand for the gun opener. I had been seeing a really good 11 point using the bench where I put the stand and had already decided that if one of the good bucks at the farm came through the old smoke pole was going roar.

Side note: I had my chance on a huge buck with my bow on November 8th, but didn’t seal the deal. I was ready for some success after that heartbreaker!

Well the Piebald was the first to show up, and at 9:30 the saga ended.

I’m really happy to take him. Not a monster but he’s super special to me. I will have his hide tanned out as a rug and will get a Euro mount done with the rack.

Here is what he looked like last year.

Here are a couple of pics of him taken earlier this year.

And this is of him yesterday morning.

An added bonus for the day was that my oldest daughter took this 7 point on her first gun hunt ever using her mom’s 357 MAG. I put her in a stand at 6:45 and at 7:30 she was lighting up the woods with the sound of her mom’s gun!! I short order she was texting me on what she should do next… I told her to hang out and we would get her buck after the rest of us had a chance to hunt a little while!

    Man was she pumped. :nana:

    Thanks Covey & Ruger..

Great day for us. My daughter is no longer a rookie.. That means she has to live by the same minimum buck standards the rest of the family does on Mom's farm! :)
