Oh noticed I somehow only posted one photo from daytime shoot. Couple other good ones...although the one with my son takes the cake clearly.
Camp has been a lot of fun but yesterday morning marked two full weeks here and I'm really ready to go home. That will probably happen tomorrow. Yesterday morning I was sitting in my valley with my 45-70 really enjoying the heated vest and hand warmers as the wind gusts buffeted the tree I was in. I have zero confidence on really windy days, so it's not surprising that I didn't notice a buck was there until he was within 40 yards trying to sneak away. I guess he had caught wind of me or maybe spotted me. Like I said in the LFTS thread, it's hard to "sneak" away from my 45-70. My track record with that gun still stands: Even though I'm colorblind I've never needed help finding a deer I've killed with it. They just don't go very far. Now I'm tagged out for gun season, so I'm camp-ratting until we leave. We have been eating very well though. Burgers, ribs, chili and even fried fish. It's been a lot of fun, but I'm so looking forward to spending some time at home.
That is a beast, Ty. Congratulations again! Oh, and you're right: The pic of you and the little man is priceless!
This is the fella who tried to sneak away. It didn’t end well for him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fellas, I need a moment to whine. This weekend really took the wind out of me, I'm always just out of range or something stupid ruins the day. Wind shifted 180, big buck 30 yards out of range on a trail they never take etc., no daylight pics in 2 weeks. I took Sunday off, and probably need a few days to get my head right, but I was ready to hang it all up Saturday evening. I won't bore you with the details, it was just an extremely frustrating weekend. That is all, I'll be back at it in a few days, I know I have these jerks patterned, I just need it all to come together...it only takes a second for a season to change.
You use any kind of weather app, I encourage weather underground. Theyve always done very well with wind forecasts for my exact zip codes over the years. Take time and get back out there, you're right it can take seconds to turn a season!!!
Ty nice pictures , didn't notice that point under the main beam before, that's really unique. Steve it'll happen! LittleChief That's a great buck! Congrats!
Finally in a tree for the day. I have seen movement all day so far. A couple I would shoot given the chance.
I saw 14 bucks and lots of does. Crazy chasing going on. No shot opportunities on the couple of good bucks. I will work tomorrow and then give it a try again Wednesday.
Oh, you shouldn't have done that. It might take me clear until January, but I will fill a buck and doe tag. lol
I packed all my gear in my truck today, I'm getting back on the horse tonight. Hopefully the big guy slips up, but a nice fat doe will do just fine.
...and bam Mud is in the scorecard too now! Keep having fun out there fellas, let's put some more meat in the freezers and if Lord is willing some antlers in our hands.
40 mph gusts today so I am staying at work and waiting for better conditions. The mature bucks have been locked down with does for several days now and I think this weekend should be on fire for bucks starting to refresh scrapes and cruising. I got a cell picture at daylight this morning of a stud by one of my stands. I also got a call yesterday afternoon from a buddy that saw a 170's class 10 point on one of my properties. I just have to get some weather to cooperate and put in some hours in the stand.
