    Thanks again everyone.
This year it was a little more of a difficult time. We had deer moving a week ago Friday and then it’s like they stopped moving. The cool thing is that my son got his first whitetail. He has shot elk and mule deer but this was his first Whitetail Hunt. So we focused on him quite a bit. He shot his doe Sunday night and his buck Monday night. The rest of the week was very very slow. Then this last Friday we had a couple bucks moving. I took mine Friday evening.
Ty, and all the problems that you’ve had with property this year. We got some bad news the day we left. It’s my wife’s family farm that we hunt out there in Kansas. We just learned that the farm got sold. There’s only one Uncle that works it and he is 83 years old. Long story short back in I believe in 92 there was a bad flood. There was extensive damage to equipment and in the buildings. A family member helped with the financing of recovering the farm. With the understanding that it would stay in the family. That family member passed away two years ago. His kids decided to sell the farm. It really tore my wife’s uncle apart. The people that bought it know my uncle. So he’s going to try hard to make sure we can keep the hunting rights to that property . Sorry don’t mean to go on it just sort of a kick in the pants. So we will see what happens next year.
Here’s a picture of the two Deer Me and my son got

Back to reality! Just got home from Little Chiefs deer farm, I had a great time hanging out and hunting something new. Learned some new things and reinforced some old things. I came back with meat for the freezer and new memories, great time and I can’t say thank you to enough Chief.
I’ll be taking a day or two off from hunting to get everything at home back in order and I’ll hit the woods in the afternoons u tilt the weekend.

It was great having you here Steve. You still have tags so we’ll have to do it again.

Chief when are you going to shoot all those dumb Kentucky farm deer? I always enjoy that trip vicariously because it’s an absolute blood bath!

To be honest I’m not sure. I do need to get over there and get my numbers up.

Just curious. It always seemed like a heck of a fun trip because of the number of deer that you see.

I finally got out a little on Friday and Saturday. With high temps in the upper 60's, the deer are moving a lot at night. I did have a fun encounter with a nice 10 point that was probably 4 1/2 and would go mid 140's to mid 150's. He walked into a plot and started feeding at 25 yards. It was my first sit and I was not quite ready to shoot the first decent buck I saw. I have pictures of some better deer and will probably be a bit picky for a while. Killing a doe will not be a problem at all. I could have shot many.

We had to go to Des Moines today to help my mother-in-law with a few things and while there, I ran into Scheels. Since I am stuck with using a crossbow until my vision problems are solved, I had to take a look at the new offerings. So, I just finished sighting in my new Ravin crossbow. lol. It is insanely accurate and fun to shoot. Lets just say that I will be anxious to snipe a couple of deer with that thing. Glad to see several of you having good success. I think we will have a good shot at a repeat! Be safe and have fun.

It used to be a blast and it will be again, but since my brother moved to Arkansas I have to take my travel trailer and stay somewhere on the farmer's land. I think I'd actually enjoy it, maybe even more than when I stayed at my brother's house.

I'm sitting here in my camper at Mark Twain National Forest.

I got here a week ago, and I haven't missed a sit. I think my shortest sit was 3 1/2 hours and my longest was 6 1/2 hours. I saw some really good bucks the first two sits but nothing in bow range. I've seen a lot of deer and even had two small bucks chasing does all around me yesterday afternoon at about 2:15.

I'll tell you guys, it's getting more and more difficult to keep this pace up. I've made two treks down into "my valley" to hunt. I had one kinda nice buck come in to 45 yards which I could do, but I couldn't tell much about him. Going down into the valley isn't too bad. Getting back out is a killer. I'm so tired right now, so since the temperature has rocketed to 72 degrees I decided to stay in camp this afternoon and tomorrow morning and get some rest.

I am certainly fortunate to live where I do when it comes to deer hunting. No question about that. lol

Yeah but our micro brewery selections around me wipe your Iowa options off the map.

Literally the only thing I could think of that is better here than there…lol

Man that really sucks Brett and I'm sorry it happened.

What are you going to do now? Are you able to get another bow?

I have a Mathews Heli-m all set up and ready as my back up bow. It's 29" draw set at 60#. It has brand new strings and it has a quiver loaded with arrows tipped with Slick Tricks. If you need me to I can overnight it to you for you to use.

Sorry about the vandalism and theft Brett. Seems extra wrong it happens to a police chief.

My brothers bil's family is leaving Colorado and moving back to Wis. because of the crime.
