Ty, it's amazing that a deer can survive injuries like that. It's also a perfect example of how an injury on one side causes the opposite side antler to be deformed.

    Good luck with them.

I made a quick drive to where I'll be hunting next week to check the forest roads for downed trees. I did get out and do a little walking, but it was getting late and I wanted to get out of there.

I only walked about 100 yards and found two fresh scrapes in one of the spots I hunt. I also found a couple of big cedar trees that had been hit.

Next week should be awesome there. The temps are going to drop down close to freezing, the rut is kicking in and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are the three best days of the new moon.

@S.McArthur - sure you don't want to come and join us?

It's tempting, my spot has been quite slow, slower than usual. And guess what I found...
***Veterans and Warriors in Transition: https://mdc.mo.gov/permits/permit-exemptions
Honorably discharged veterans or active personnel who:
    • have service-related disability of 60% or greater
    • were a prisoner of war during military service
    • are assigned as a patient to a Warrior Transition Brigade, Warrior Transition Unit, or military medical center
May fish and hunt (except deer and turkey) but not trap without permit. When a hunting permit is required (deer, turkey, migratory bird, Conservation Order permits), nonresident veterans who meet the above requirements may purchase resident permits. You must carry a certified statement of eligibility from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or orders showing assignment to a Warrior Transition Brigade or Warrior Transition Unit, or carry admission verification to a military medical center.

That really makes thing tempting, that's a hell of a deal to hunt out of state.

I can be up there whenever, not this weekend because of Halloween, but I can be there whenever. Perhaps leave work Thursday around noon, if not earlier. Up to you, wife has nothing scheduled for next weekend.

Good morning gentleman! I went MIA this last week while I was in Missouri. All in all a great trip. I didn’t punch a tag but two guys in our group of 4 did and another gave a buck a haircut.

It was a last minute decision that I made to go down and my dad also rode with me so a lot of my trip composed of getting him on deer. Northern MO was hit hard with EHD in 2019 so I figured it’d still be fairly tough, but I found the freshest deer sign possible and set my dad up on that sign on multiple different properties.

Sunday afternoon/night a giant storm rolled through the area that we were in and I knew that Monday would be the day to capitalize. I sent my dad to a property that I had found some fairly fresh internal scrapes where 3 ditches came together into a grassy bottom in the middle of a small public piece. At 8:15 I got the text “Buck down”.

By no means was he the biggest buck in the woods or the biggest buck that my dad has shot, but he was happy and I was proud.

At the time I was taking pictures when my dad said “This is a whole different world from hunting at home, I would have never seen any deer this trip if it wasn’t for you showing and telling me where to go”. In that split second of what seemed like just another hunting memory with my dad, I realized that my hunting career had come full circle. From my first bow kill at 13 years old from a stand that my dad had hung for me to now me being almost 32 and my dad’s most recent kill where I had told him the exact tree to sit by. It was a moment that stood still!

Here are some picture from the trip including both deer that were shot.

I’m slowly getting my gear together and loaded in the travel trailer for the trip starting Monday.

Today I changed the oil in my 2 Yamaha 2000 watt inverter generators, got the e-bike and deer cart trailer ready, repaired the bow holder on my ATV and went on a little grocery shopping trip.

Tomorrow I’ll load everything except for a few items. Sunday the wife needs help weedeating 2 miles of her section of the Ozark Trail. She sure could have picked a better day to do it than during the two day youth gun season here in Missouri.

We’ll be wearing orange and I’ll have a sidearm on me out there. We’ll do the trail work between 11:00 and 1:00.

Can you re-take them? I almost can’t even tell you’re holding a bow. It’s blurry, but to be honest everything but you and the bow are in focus. I think you were moving.

Worst case scenario they should work. In one it’s kind of obvious you are holding a bow, so it stands to reason you’re holding a bow in the other.

It would be much better if you could take new pics, though, if it’s not too late.
