Brett seems I usually forget something on first hunt of the year also. Great that you had some action!

Well here's the first of two main targets that are of age at my place outside of Bertier...

Highrise - This was a buck that caught my eye in 2017 with his UNIQUE style rack that slants up and is centered around massively long and wavvy browtines. Pops had him at 7 yards last year but couldn't get a shot....I passed him in a plethora of times in 2017 as well. Well, last year the dude blew up and this year he's now thrown a split rightside G2...and still tossed the short non-typical "tine" on the one beam as well.

Threw a 2019 photo up of him and a few from this year. Dude is EVERYWHERE once the velvet falls (hundreds of pictures and videos from over the years), he actually seems to shift more on to my place than he does over the summer, but his favorite bedding location for years now has remained an unknown, except for one small patch of overgrowth that can overlook one of our main parking spots (which would make a tremendous amount of sense).

He is the buck I shared his June picture of early on. Just amazing brows.

Well guys in about an hour I should know if I’ll need surgery on my knee or not, I’m hoping for the not. But if it needs to be done it needs to be done. I will update you guys a little later on.

Prayers @MIHOYT89 for the knee bud!

As for prep I'm behind as well like many, got one stand to hang yet...but not too worried it is an early season only stand set specifically to kill an antlerless. Gotta get clothes prepped as well and in totes for travel...and tonight gonna take a spin at sharpening my single bevels by hand back to insane sharpness. Presently shoot Grizzlystik 200 grain single bevels. Things come and still are scary sharp, but wanna perfect the sharpening aspect of it.

Alright great news, no surgery. A small tear in my mcl is healing very well, and what they thought was a ruptured bursa sac was not ruptured, and the big one which both doctors thought was a torn acl is slightly inflamed but 100% intact. Everything is healing as it should. And as long as I’m careful I am cleared to hunt. I am going to take precaution, ground hunt if it’s wet and wear ice cleats underneath my rubber boots.

That's great news! It's always good news to find out you don't need surgery. It's fantastic news at this time of year.

Crazy day today. I'm behind in getting my stuff ready for the trip to Kentucky tomorrow.

It started with team problems and a good two hours unscrewing the teams list.

Then the wife wants to take the old push mower to the scrap yard (45 minutes away) so she doesn't have to look at it while I'm gone. Yes dear. I forgot it's been raining for a week. Got to the scrap yard in tennis shoes and had to wade through mud to dump the mower. Dang it woman.

Got home and it's not raining today, so I get all of my warm weather gear hung on the fence and sprayed with permethrin.

Spent 30 minutes packing all of my accessories back in my pack that got washed.

Then the wife wants the yard mowed and edged before I go so she doesn't have to look at the tall grass while I'm gone. Yes dear. Just got finished with that.

Now I need to pack everything and load it. I sure hope she doesn't come up with something else she wants done before I leave tomorrow.

But soon you will be in a tree hopefully filling your freezer. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little jealous.

It's hard to believe that in just over 24 hours it'll be showtime.

It doesn't seem like it's been that long, but since I hunt in Kentucky and Arkansas it really hasn't. Kentucky season opens the first weekend in September every year and Arkansas runs through the last day of February. Six solid months of bowhunting.

    Life is good.

Little chief what’s your experience hunting Kentucky. I have about 6 more years in NY until the last of the kids graduate and that’s the state I’m kinda leaning towards. Any thoughts?
