Having two boys a few years older than yours (11), get them involved as much as possible. Their enthusiasm may not be as high in a couple years as they hit the middle school/preteen age. I told my boys they do not have to help process a deer I kill. However, they have no choice and will do the work if they kill the deer. My five-year-old still loves it though. He helped me process the deer from Missouri.

cantexian, I agree with you on this. I have 4 sons and one daughter. I took them fishing as toddlers and hunting around 7-8 years old. Three of my sons love to hunt and fish. My one son that doesn’t hunt loves to fish. My daughter when she wants some daddy daughter time (usually advise on how to raise a 12 year old boy with out strangling him) will ask me to take her fishing. Involve your children in your activities and be involved in there’s. My third son when he was in high school played football and did ballroom dance. I would tell people I had a dance recital to go to they always chuckled at me when I said it’s my son and not my daughter. And then your children will have children and grandchildren are the greatest.

I will probably be hunting somewhere tomorrow....not sure where or what with. I'll be honest if I hunt, good chance I will shoot anything but a yearling buck :)

So it will probably take me longer to type this then how my hunt played out yesterday. I get to my stand at 320 get settled in and put my gun on the shooting rail. Just so I set it just right and it ejects the magazine straight down hitting the ladder 2 to 3 times. I have 1 bullet still chambered and am thinking that should be sufficient. Most of my shots are 20yds or so there but I decide to get down and get it anyway. Climb back up put the magazine back in look up and here comes a doe. I figure the sound might have peeked her curiosity but she keeps looking back also. Then I see antlers coming through the brush. Gives me a 30 yds shot the last 10 through light brush. He bound off about 10 yds in a half circle the doe didn’t move. So I fired again he ran off. I got down looking for blood and couldn’t find a drop where I thought I hit him. I could smell him though, followed his tracks about 10 yds and there he was dead. I can’t believe no pass through with a rifle at that range. I clipped what looked like top of the hear. Needless to say I was stoked. My cousin who’s 6 2 and 250 and I’m 6 235 had a hard time hossing him around. Guessing he dressed around 180. Luckily I was able to drag him out with the 4 wheeler but we had a tough time hanging him up. He’s at the butcher now. Resting up for the late archery season now. Have to start shootings my bow. Any buck beware. DE44B386-36FD-44B7-9DC5-360986FE32B8.jpeg

Great story Ash. It’s hard to believe you couldn’t find any blood. I’m accustomed to it, but for you guys that must be disconcerting.

    Congratulations again!!

One detail I forgot to add when I was looking for him. Their beds were right there probably 15yds from where I shot him. So luck was on my side that day. Thanks for the congrats.

Ash I got faith in you. Honestly enjoy yourself out there. A threepete would be nice but if we can’t enjoy it what is it worth

Thanks old carp. I do definitely enjoy but I must say there’s a little pressure” self induced” to try to keep the team together and I’d love to just get a big ole wall hanger. I’ve never got a deer that late in the season also so there are lots of challenges ahead.
