I decided to sleep in this morning. It got down to 19 degrees this morning and since I can’t find my boot covers I’ve been pretty miserable since the temps dropped and I’m sick of sitting there shivering. I just needed a day off, or at least a morning off.

Thing is it’s not going to get better anytime soon and I don’t have the gear some of you guys farther north have.

I don’t have any “quit” in me, though, so I’ll be back out. Maybe this afternoon. I may just burn my gun tag on a big doe even though I said I wouldn’t.

Nice job farmer Rick. I have to ask because I’ve seen it a couple times but what does fergie mean?

I don’t know when the “fergie clause” came to be, but if a buck scores less than 50” it still counts as 50 points.

I believe the “fergie clause” was named for a member on the forums. Maybe jfergus? It was someone who everyone called “Fergie”.

Yup named after a forum member and was decided a buck shouldn't be worth less than a doe...and the fergie clause was born.

I wonder what happened to Ferg. He used to have a lot of good content. Goes way back to the the original site. If I remember right, Fergie killed a few bucks that were broken badly or were spikes and the new rule was born out of some spirited debates. lol.

lol amen to that. To be fair I warned everyone before the season and then especially as it played out like it has it isn’t a normal year here for me.
Not gonna stop me from trying.

While I’ve never said “I’ve got this”, I did tell @cantexian “Here, hold my beer” earlier this season.

I am by no means a trophy hunter. It was the first day on this hunting trip. If it was the end of next week he may have got shot. I would like one in the freezer.
    Ty, I got your back:cool:

I always wondered about the fergie clause also.
I should've read the rules of the contest after my hunt. Doe came by 1st shot her she takes off. Decided what the heck while I give the doe a little time, might as well cock and load the crossbow in case a buck comes by. Maybe 15 minutes later buck comes by and shot him. Tracked the (doe) turned out to be a tiny spike. Wis. it's legal to put antlerless tag on spikes 3 inches and shorter so no problem there.
Didn't think any way I could use it for this contest, so didn't take any pictures of it and me in photos.
After reading the rules maybe I could have.
No big deal after gun season, we have long late season I'll shoot a doe and add 50 more points.

Good luck to team out hunting. IMG_1837.JPG

Rick, if a spike counts as antlerless in the state you are in then it counts as antlerless for the contest. The contest rules don’t override the laws of a state.

Edited. I don’t think I read your post correctly the first time.
