Well cold snap hitting here with slurries, snow chance and rain for a couple days. I will not be able to hunt it....may escape work early Wednesday if it feels good.

Bad wind conditions this week so may get out and try and make Ty happy with a doe kill. Bucks have been doing their October roaming currently which is frustrating, but know they will wind back on mine here eventually as I hold majority of the doe (yes Ty I have a lot of doe lol). The only bad thing is the big one on my main property has bene avoiding neighbors cameras for last three years, but they just got him so hoping they overpressure their properties.

Planned on hunting this morning, drizzle and strong winds changed my mind. Hunted yesterday afternoon at blind on edge of food plot. Couple fawns showed up then spike came and chased them off. He fed by mock scape in front of my blind till other deer came into plot then he would chase them off. No does came close for a shot.

Youth hunt twin grandsons hunted, they both had easy chances at does but they decided they wanted a buck. Wish they would shoot a few more deer before they try to be trophy hunters lol.

Youngest son hunted Sat. afternoon hunted an hour and got a doe. He drove his 20 year old work outback here, 1st time I ever helped someone load a deer on a station wagon. IMG_1833.JPG

Honestly those AWD outbacks are beasts of vehicles. If I decided to hunt public and trips...I'd think long and hard about one...buddy of mine has a hitch rack attachment...took out the back seat...can sleep in the thing out of weather and get nearly anywhere barring MASSIVE ruts cuz of lower clearance. He love his...last I talked to him it has over 220,000 miles on it.

Nothing for me this morning. Lots of squirrels and chipmunks and that loan doe walking in. Might try again tomorrow morning in a different area.

I boiled out the skull on my buck. I always put some Dawn dish soap in the water and this time I added some Oxi-Clean and Tide. I don't think I will even bleach it when done. The Oxi really does a great job of whitening the bone. My wife was so impressed she took the rest of the box and put it in our laundry room for white towels and clothes. lol. Anyway, I only spent about 3 hours (2 good beers) on this so far and another 10 minutes with a wire brush in a drill will finish it up. I just need to grab or make a couple of brackets to hang it on.

Also, great thread this season guys! Love the duck and deer hunts with families, and the fact that we have a teammate chasing a GIANT, and that LC still kills more deer than cars do on the highway, and the fact that Ty actually killed a deer! Amazing stuff for sure. Be safe, and keep the fun rolling.

So what does it take for you to do a full shoulder mount if you did that as a Euro? Looks great BTW.

I keep the antlers out of the water as much as possible and I do wrap them in foil and tape to protect them.

Honestly, I seriously considered doing a shoulder mount of this one. It would be in my top 5. But, I really like being able to handle it and wanted to have the ability to take it with me to the cabin and throw up on the wall next to my FIL's last buck when we spend time there. It isn't something I really want to leave at the cabin full-time though. So, I decided a euro was best. Also, I have 13 or 14 shoulder mounts already and I really don't know what it might take to get another done. For sure a 200"! lol. Here is a wall in the trophy room that averages well into the 170's with a couple in the 180's. I do not claim to be a great whitetail hunter, but a product of my location. I simply live where they live.

That far left one I think is still my favorite of them, such a cool rack and THICK. I forget how long ago was that one?
