I’m changing my plans. I was going to be heading to Kentucky tomorrow but I’m going to head back to Josh’s place in mid-west Missouri on Wednesday and hunt there Thursday through Sunday. I’m not a big fan of the full moon that is approaching, but the deer there move pretty good during the full moon.

Thursday will be warm but the temps are going to plummet Friday with a high of 63 and a low of 31. I think Friday and Saturday are my best chance days.

Regardless of how that trip turns out I’ll be heading to Kentucky around the 12th for a few days.

If I don’t get a buck in mid-west Missouri this week or in Kentucky the next week I will probably go back to Josh’s place and hunt the 24th through the 27th and be there for the new moon.

Dang Mitch! You’re on a roll this year!

    Congratulations Cap’n!!

For the trophy Doe contest, I’m not positive but I believe you have to have video of the deer being weighed along with video evidence that it’s totally gutted.

That is a hoss of a doe!!

Zero update from here hunting wise fellas. Wife told me I could go Sunday afternoon but she looked bad/exhausted (she was sick too) so I lied and said where I wanted to go the wind was bad and I'd be staying home to take care of her and little man. Little man's fever never went beneath 102 all day Saturday and Sunday. I stayed home yesterday with him but in morning it had dipped to 99.7 and by the time he woke up from afternoon nap it was under 99 and he was acting himself.

I am hoping to get out some this coming weekend but Saturday will be limited solely to morning and Sunday solely to afternoon. Depending what property I go to it will be any antlerless is DEAD.

Sorry guys I got both of the deer cleaned up and into the cooler last night around 11:45 then me my dad and brother in law sat around a hot fire and drank some beverages so I didn’t get home until about 2:00 so I did sleep in a little this morning.

Here we go….I got into the stand around 5:00 and it just felt right. I had acorns along the field edge that were pouring out of the oaks, green soy beans on the inside corner where I was sitting, and early shadows on the field by 5:30. At 5:45 I saw 2 small bucks inside the woods just browsing along. Then around 6 my doe appeared in the same spot but she turned and headed towards the field. She did exactly what I was hoping and came right to the beans in the corner and gave me an 18 yard hard quartering away shot around 6:15, I took the shot and she crashed after about 100 yards.

I sat in the stand until about 6:45 and decided to get down so I could get the doe out to my dads and get home at a decent time.

    Here’s where it got interesting.

I lowered my bow gathered all my stuff and started climbing down, as I was half way down the tree a doe popped out at 30 yards! I slowly made my way down to the ground when she was feeding. As I was standing there the buckcame out across the field, at the time I didn’t know exactly what he was, but I knocked an arrow and just hung tight.

I figured what the hell and pulled out my grunt tube and gave 3 grunts, and here he comes. As he was making his way across the field 3 more does were coming in as well. He took his time worked 2 or 3 scrapes but he was coming. The last scrape he worked was at 15-20 yards, now I’ve got 5 adult deer within 20 yards.

I was in kind of an awkward position and almost messed up but I had to adjust a little and one doe caught me. She took one bound and blew. As she did that I drew and the buck took a bound and stopped perfectly at 25 yards and I cut it loose. The arrow hit its mark taking out both lungs and his heart, he made it about 80 yards and crashed!

It was one of if not the most exciting hunt that I’ve ever had, and will be burned into my memory for years to come!

Thank you for all of the congratulations guys, as I’ve said before this thread and the camaraderie here makes hunting even better.

I’m going to be busy this weekend.

I couldn’t pass him, it was such an awesome night. I’ve always wanted a big 6pt. He won’t make p&y but I doubt I’ll ever shoot a bigger 6.
