I keep hearing over and over again the song by Queen “We are the champions”
It was another fun year of hunting. It was a tough at times but a fun hunt all the same.

I know I had some tough times this season. I'm still haunted by the buck of a lifetime that I shot in the shoulder early in the season. How many 150-ish 8 points to you get a chance at in a lifetime?

Still, I had a great season and it's not over yet.

One thing that does seem strange is that I managed to put the first kill on the scorecard and then ended up putting the last kill on the scorecard. There was a LOT of hunting in between those two kills as well.

Our bow hunt here opens the third weekend in August. The second weekend I missed a little mule buck and thought I blew my chance. It turned out to be ok because I shot a bigger Whitetail buck in Kansas. Not a big whitetail buck just bigger than the mule deer buck I missed. I saw a couple decent Mule deer bucks but I just couldn’t get on them. The best part about it is being on the mountain and realizing how lucky we are. There is something about being on the mountain and in the woods that just does something for me. It’s hard to explain.

I was born and raised in the flat farmlands of SE Missouri. I live in the Ozark "Mountains" now, but those aren't mountains. They're just somewhat significant hills.

While I've been all over the world and seen some of the biggest mountains in the world I have no idea what it's actually like to hunt in the mountains. I can't even imagine it. I guess you'd have to be in pretty good physical condition.

I was born in Central Oregon and ended up in Central Utah. I am pretty sure we have posted these pictures before. We live in a diverse area from desert to mountains. They both have their beauty. When I hunt Kansas it has its own beauty also.
When I was in this service all I saw was Korea and Central America. They had amazing places also.
LC, I spent four months at Fort Leonard Wood. I always thought that would be a cool place to hunt is in Missouri. It is a lot more wooded than Central Kansas.

Our win, outside of a few other things, is about the only bright spots from my year as many of you know.

Going to hopefully put in some leg work on gaining new permissions even if not great properties, but some of our present issues at what have been blessing are almost discouraging any desire to hunt and may be chosen to let go rather than forced to.

I am not sure at all what the future holds if that happens...my place has dealt with so much trespassing and habitat changes due to construction it will be interesting to see if any resemblence of past use returns or is over. The place I shot my buck off of this year is the one with the most headaches landowner wise (well his grandson and grandson's friend) that even just yesterday has added more to the saga - in short we never were called for the green light to get back on the property like agreed upon for years after firearms season....but whatever - is what it is.

Either way, I have so much appreciated the updates from so many of you - and at times helped me remember the good and amazingness of bowhunting which nothing provides us with quite the exact joy and pleasure when it is unadulterated.

I've even thought about hunting some public about two and a half hours East of me...but with toddler at home and a wife that isn't keen on being gone a ton right now I may not swing that - we will see this coming fall (may do a spring scouting trip though just incase).

Again thanks to the whole team - in an otherwise ****storm of a hunting season following along here has been the brightspot.

Oh, hey Team. Does everyone still wear the same size as last year? You only need to let me know if something has changed.

Those are great pics!! Fort Leonard Wood isn’t far from here and you’re right: There is great hunting there.

I don’t think they have much in the way of hat size selections.

My hat size is 7 1/2 which is pretty big but did you notice which ball cap I had on when I recovered the buck?
